Signs of CV joint wear

CV joints, or CV joints, are virtually maintenance-free mechanisms. Their durability depends on various factors. Of course, these include the quality of the materials used in the production and the accuracy of workmanship. Driving style has a big impact on how long the hinges in a car will last. Frequent, sudden starts at full throttle and, moreover, on twisted wheels will certainly reduce their mechanical life.

However, even the best, made of the best materials and operated in accordance with the best principles, wears out quickly if not under the right working conditions. This is ensured by proper lubrication of the cooperating precision-manufactured elements and effective protection against contamination. The last role is played by a folding rubber cover, fixed on the hinge on one side, and on the axle shaft on the other. This is the weakest link, because rubber can be damaged, for example, by sharp stones thrown from under the wheels. Cracks in the lid are also the result of the gradual aging of the rubber. Even a small crack in the cap causes a central force to push the grease out. The crack will also increase in size. Loose or broken clamps can cause the lid to slip and expose the connection to various types of contaminants. Hence the need to frequently check the condition of the connecting covers and pressure bands. Any noticeable damage to the rubber cover of the cover entitles it to be replaced immediately. Otherwise, we will soon hear signs of joint wear.
