BMW Motorrad reversed this trend in the first quarter of 2020.

Motorcycle sales in Australia declined slightly in the first quarter of the year, according to data released by the Federal Chamber of the Automotive Industry (FCAI).

The data shows a 2.5% decline in sales of motorcycles, ATVs, SUVs and scooters overall, with 17,977 vehicles registered in the first quarter of 2020 compared to 18,438 in the same period last year.

According to FCAI chief executive Tony Weber, the decline was caused by a number of factors.

“In the first three months of 2020, the Australian market experienced a host of challenges including floods, drought, wildfires and more recently the coronavirus pandemic,” Mr Weber said. "The market has proven remarkably resilient under the circumstances."

Despite the increasing presence of scooters on city streets across the country, this segment shrank by 14.1% in the first quarter. Honda leads this part of the market with a 33.1% share (although sales fell from 495 to 385 units), followed by Suzuki (up from 200 to 254 units, 21.9% share) and Vespa (down from 224 units). to 197 sold, for a share of 17 percent).

Road bike sales declined 7.8% in the first quarter, with notable drops in volume for the top four brands—Harley Davidson, Yamaha, Honda and Kawasaki. However, fifth place BMW saw a 2020% increase in sales in the first quarter of 19.0.

The ATV and Light Vehicle segment ranked first among competitors, up 8.0% year-over-year. Polaris leads the segment with a 2019% share, followed by Honda (27.9%). cents) and Yamaha (21.6).
