If you've been buying a used Mini, you can check out the cars through their certified used car program. Many manufacturers have a Certified Used Car Program (CPO) and each is set up differently. Read on to learn about the features of the Mini CPO program.

To qualify as a certified used car, Mini vehicles must be under five years old, have under 60,000 miles, and have a clean vehicle history record.

Inspection

To ensure that all certified used vehicles are safe to drive, Mini subjects all CPO vehicles to a thorough inspection that includes the following areas or procedures:

  • History of the car
  • Wheel assembly
  • body condition
  • Mechanical
  • Road test

Warranty

Mini CPO vehicles come with two different types of limited warranties. The most common is the Standard Coverage Warranty, which covers your vehicle for two years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. This warranty comes into effect after the original four-year new Mini passenger car limited warranty or 50,000 miles has expired, which means you get a total of six years or 100,000 miles.

Mini Next vehicles from 300 to 36,000 to 25,000 miles are warranted for one year/36,000 to 75,000 miles after the four-year New Passenger Car Limited Warranty. This means that vehicles with less than XNUMX miles are only covered by the warranty for five full years or XNUMX full miles, whichever comes first.

Both warranties include 24/7 roadside assistance programs available for the duration of the warranty.

Prices

Buying a certified used Mini instead of a used car can affect the price at most dealerships. Net profit will typically be about 12% higher than a typical "used" car.

For example, at the time of this writing in April 2016, a used 2012 mini roadster had a Kelly Blue Book value of $15,148; the same car in the Mini CPO program costs about $17,029.

Compare Mini to other certified used car programs

Whether or not you choose to use a CPO vehicle, it is always wise to have any used vehicle inspected by an independent certified mechanic before purchasing it. A certified used car does not mean that the car is in perfect condition, and any used car can have serious problems that are not visible to the untrained eye. If you're in the market to buy a used car, schedule a pre-purchase inspection for complete peace of mind.
