Drivers in the Acura used market may want to inspect vehicles through their Certified Used Program. Many manufacturers have a Certified Used Car Program (CPO) and each is set up differently. Read on to learn about the features of the Acura CPO program.

Acura Certified Used Vehicles are always under six years old, have less than 80,000 miles on them, and come with a 12-month/12,000-mile certified limited warranty.

Inspection

Each Acura CPO vehicle must pass a 182-point test that includes the following systems:

  • ENGINES
  • Valve Train
  • fuel
  • Exhaust
  • Consumption
  • Transmission
  • Differential
  • universal joint
  • Braking

  • Electrical

Warranty

Acura CPO vehicles are covered by a warranty that covers the repair or replacement of any part that fails under normal use. Repair does not require a deduction. Other benefits of the warranty include:

  • Emergency 24-hour roadside assistance, which includes starting the battery, emergency lockout assistance, fuel delivery, emergency towing, and changing a flat tire.

  • Computerized mapping and trip routing services that offer detailed trip itinerary packages and pre-planned itineraries that help owners spend less vacation time.

  • Trip interruption benefits that reimburse owners for up to three consecutive days of room and board ($100 per day, up to $300 total) if their Acura CPO breaks down at least 100 miles from home.

  • Rent refund up to $45 per day for six days if Acura CPO requires repairs.

  • Hotel catalog

  • Acura Concierge, which helps owners purchase emergency plane tickets, get insurance assistance, and get referrals to repair technicians.

  • Full access to information about the history of the car, including service books.

Extended Warranty Options

There are also two extended warranty options available to CPO vehicle owners that cover non-transmission equipment for a total of seven years/100,000 miles or eight years/120,000 miles, whichever comes first. These extended warranties can only be purchased at the time of vehicle purchase from the dealership.

Prices

Buying an Acura certified used car does affect the price. Net profit will typically be about 13% higher than a typical "used" car.

For example, at the time of this writing in April 2016, a used 2012 Acura MDX SUV with less than 44,000 miles on Edmunds.com was selling for about $27,500; the same car in the Acura CPO program costs about $31,000.

Compare Acura to other CPO programs

Whether or not you choose to use a CPO vehicle, it is always wise to have any used vehicle inspected by an independent certified mechanic before purchasing it. A certified used car does not mean that the car is in perfect condition, and any used car can have serious problems that are not visible to the untrained eye.
