Drivers in the GMC used car market may want to inspect vehicles through their certified used program. Many manufacturers have a Certified Used Car Program (CPO) and each is set up differently. Read on to learn about the features of the GMC CPO program.

GMC-certified used vehicles are always under five years old, have less than 75,000 miles on them, and come with a 12-month/12,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty, plus an extended six-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty. .

Inspection

To ensure that all certified used vehicles are safe to drive, GMC submits all CPO vehicles to a 172-item audit that includes the following procedures and areas:

  • History of the car
  • Road test
  • Engine compartment
  • Checking Hybrid Vehicle Components
  • Inspection under the car
  • Scheduled maintenance
  • External and internal condition and detailing

Warranty

GMC CPO vehicles come with two limited warranties. The former covers the entire vehicle from bumper to bumper for 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. The second is the Powertrain Limited Warranty, which covers the repair or replacement of major powertrain components for six years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.

The warranty also includes certain benefits, including:

  • A maintenance program that covers two maintenance visits within two years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first.

  • Complete CARFAX vehicle history report including service book.

  • Three-month trial of the OnStar Guidance Plan plus three years of the OnStar Basic Plan.

  • Three-month subscription to the SiriusXM Satellite Radio All Access package.

  • A XNUMX-hour roadside assistance program that offers emergency assistance services.

Prices

Buying a GMC certified used car instead of a used car can make a minimal difference in price at most dealerships. Net profit will typically be about 8% higher than a typical "used" car.

For example, at the time of this writing in April 2016, a used 2012 GMC Yukon XL 1500 has a Kelley Blue Book value of $26,845, while the same vehicle in the GMC CPO program is worth about $28,945.

Compare GMC to other certified used car programs

Whether or not you choose to use a CPO vehicle, it is always wise to have any used vehicle inspected by an independent certified mechanic before purchasing it. A certified used car does not mean that the car is in perfect condition, and any used car can have serious problems that are not visible to the untrained eye. If you're in the market to buy a used car, schedule a pre-purchase inspection for complete peace of mind.
