If you've been buying a used Honda vehicle, you can check out the vehicles through their certified used car program. Many manufacturers have a Certified Used Car Program (CPO) and each is set up differently. Read on to learn about the features of the Honda CPO program.

Honda-certified used vehicles are always under six years old, have less than 80,000 miles on them, and come with a 100,000 transmission extended limited warranty for seven years.

Inspection

To make sure all certified used vehicles are safe to drive, Honda puts all CPO vehicles through a 182-point test that includes the following vehicle systems:

  • brakes
  • ENGINES
  • Bridge
  • Control mechanism
  • Suspension
  • Tires and Wheels
  • Extraction System
  • Interior and exterior

Any parts that do not meet Honda Automotive Technician standards are replaced or repaired until the vehicle becomes part of the CPO program.

Warranty

Honda CPO vehicles come with a Powertrain Limited Warranty that covers repair or replacement of major engine, drive system and transmission components for seven years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.

The warranty also includes certain benefits, including:

  • Complete CARFAX vehicle history report including service book.

  • Three-month trial subscription to the SiriusXM Satellite Radio All Access package.

  • A XNUMX/XNUMX roadside assistance program called "Honda Care" that offers emergency services including:

    • Help with blocking
    • Car rental reimbursement
    • Towing
    • Individual travel plan
    • Emergency concierge service
    • Trip Interruption Benefits

For details on specific refund amounts, contact an authorized Honda Certified used car dealer.

Prices

Buying a Honda certified used car instead of a used car can affect the price at most dealerships. Net profit will typically be about 16% higher than a typical "used" car.

For example, at the time of this writing in April 2016, Kelly's blue book used 2012 Honda Odyssey was valued at $14,730; the same car in the Honda CPO program costs about $17,857.

Compare Honda to other certified used car programs

Whether or not you choose to use a CPO vehicle, it is always wise to have any used vehicle inspected by an independent certified mechanic before purchasing it. A certified used car does not mean that the car is in perfect condition, and any used car can have serious problems that are not visible to the untrained eye. If you're in the market to buy a used car, schedule a pre-purchase inspection for complete peace of mind.
