If you have been buying a used Hyundai vehicle, you can check the vehicles through their certified used car program. Many manufacturers have a Certified Used Car Program (CPO) and each is set up differently. Read on to learn about the features of the Hyundai CPO program.

To qualify as a Certified Used Vehicle, Hyundai vehicles must be under five years old, have under 60,000 miles, and have a clean vehicle history record.

Inspection

To ensure that all certified used vehicles are safe to drive, Hyundai submits all CPO vehicles to a 150-point test that includes the following vehicle systems:

  • brakes
  • ENGINES
  • Bridge
  • Control mechanism
  • Suspension
  • Tires and Wheels
  • Extraction System
  • Interior and exterior

Warranty

Hyundai CPO vehicles come with a limited powertrain warranty that covers the repair or replacement of major engine, driveline and transmission components for 10 years or 100,000 miles or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is on top of the remainder of the five-year, XNUMX-mile new car warranty that is provided on all Hyundai vehicles.

The warranty also includes certain benefits, including:

  • Complete CARFAX vehicle history report including service book.

  • Three-month trial subscription to the SiriusXM Satellite Radio All Access package.

  • A 24/XNUMX roadside assistance program that offers emergency services including car rental reimbursement, towing reimbursement, and trip disruption reimbursement during a XNUMX-year warranty.

  • Opportunity to purchase Hyundai Protection Plan service from participating Hyundai Authorized Dealers.

For details on specific refund amounts, please contact an authorized Hyundai used vehicle dealer or refer to your Hyundai vehicle owner's manual.

Prices

Buying a certified used Hyundai vehicle instead of a used vehicle can affect the price at most dealerships. Net profit will typically be about 8% higher than a typical "used" car.

For example, at the time of this writing in April 2016, a used 2012 Hyundai Sonata was valued at $12,168 in the Kelly Blue Book; the same car in the Hyundai CPO program costs about $13,243.

Compare Hyundai to other certified used car programs

Whether or not you choose to use a CPO vehicle, it is always wise to have any used vehicle inspected by an independent certified mechanic before purchasing it. A certified used car does not mean that the car is in perfect condition, and any used car can have serious problems that are not visible to the untrained eye. If you're in the market to buy a used car, schedule a pre-purchase inspection for complete peace of mind.
