If you have bought a used Kia vehicle, you can check the vehicles through their certified used car program. Many manufacturers have a Certified Used Car Program (CPO) and each is set up differently. Read on to learn about the features of the Kia CPO program.

To qualify as a Certified Used Car, Kia vehicles must be under five years old, have less than 60,000 miles, and have a clean vehicle history report from CARFAX.

Inspection

To ensure that all certified used vehicles are safe to drive, Kia submits all potential CPO vehicles to a 150-point test that includes checks on the following vehicle systems:

  • brakes
  • ENGINES
  • Bridge
  • Control mechanism
  • Suspension
  • Tires and Wheels
  • Extraction System
  • Interior and exterior

Warranty

Kia CPO vehicles come with a limited powertrain warranty that covers the repair or replacement of major engine, driveline and transmission components for 10 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. That's on top of the remainder of the 12,000-mile platinum coverage warranty.

The warranty also includes certain benefits, including:

  • Complete CARFAX vehicle history report including service book.

  • A XNUMX-hour roadside assistance program that offers emergency services, including the following:

    • Car rental reimbursement up to $35 per day for 10 days.
    • Towing reimbursement, up to $75 per copy
    • Trip Interruption Compensation, up to $100 per day, only $500 per copy.
  • Possibility to purchase additional insurance in the event of a malfunction at an authorized Kia dealership.

Prices

Buying a certified pre-owned Kia vehicle instead of a used vehicle can have a small effect on the price at most dealerships. Net profit will typically be about 8% higher than a typical "used" Kia car.

For example, at the time of this writing in April 2016, Kelly's blue book used 2012 Kia Optima was valued at $12,812; the same car in the Kia CPO program costs about $13,862.

Compare Kia to other certified used car programs

Whether or not you choose to use a CPO vehicle, it is always wise to have any used vehicle inspected by an independent certified mechanic before purchasing it. A certified used car does not mean that the car is in perfect condition, and any used car can have serious problems that are not visible to the untrained eye. If you're in the market to buy a used car, schedule a pre-purchase inspection for complete peace of mind.
