Drivers who are looking for a used Lexus vehicle may want to check out vehicles through their certified used car program. Many manufacturers have a Certified Used Car Program (CPO) and each is set up differently. Read on to learn more about the features of the Lexus CPO program.

To qualify as a Certified Used Vehicle, Lexus vehicles must be under six years old, have under 70,000 miles, and have a clean vehicle history record.

Inspection

To ensure that all certified used vehicles are safe to drive, Lexus submits all CPO vehicles to a 161-point audit that includes the following areas and procedures:

  • Under vehicle inspection
  • Inspection under the hood
  • Inspection of the luggage compartment
  • Internal inspection and detailing
  • Visual inspection
  • Road test

Warranty

Lexus CPO vehicles come with a limited warranty that covers the repair or replacement of all major engine, drive and transmission components for a period of six years. There is no warranty limit on mileage; you are fully insured for six years.

The warranty also includes certain benefits, including:

  • A rental car that can be used free of charge in case your car requires warranty repair at the dealership for more than eight hours.

  • A 24/XNUMX roadside assistance program that includes towing to the nearest Lexus dealership and reimbursement of up to $XNUMX per night for trip interruption in the event your vehicle breaks down while away from home.

  • Reimbursement of rent up to $50 per day for up to five days per copy.

  • Optional maintenance that covers the following four factory recommended settings over 20,000 miles or two years, whichever comes first.

Prices

Buying a certified used Lexus instead of a used car can affect the price at most dealerships. Net profit will typically be about 28% higher than a typical "used" car.

For example, at the time of this writing in April 2016, a used 2012 Lexus RX 350 on Edmunds.com was worth $29,991 USD 38,481; the same car in the Lexus CPO program costs about $XNUMX.

Compare Lexus to other certified used car programs

Whether or not you choose to use a CPO vehicle, it is always wise to have any used vehicle inspected by an independent certified mechanic before purchasing it. A certified used car does not mean that the car is in perfect condition, and any used car can have serious problems that are not visible to the untrained eye. If you're in the market to buy a used car, schedule a pre-purchase inspection for complete peace of mind.
