Tesla Software 2020.25.4.1: Tesla Autopilot Will Stop Stopping At Green Traffic Lights. Now officially • CARS

Tesla's latest Autopilot / FSD software can recognize traffic lights and STOP signs, distinguish between light colors but ignore them (in the vast majority of countries around the world), or always stop, even at green (in the United States). The next version of the program is designed to change the behavior of cars in the United States.

Tesla will stop stopping at green traffic lights. Under certain conditions

Tesla started noticing traffic light colors in October 2019. For several months now, European cars have also noticed traffic lights, but cars on American roads have gone even further: they start acting when they see a traffic light. Until now, it has always been more or less “decelerate to a stop, even on green, unless the driver presses the accelerator pedal or pulls the lever».

You can see this in the screenshot below:

This behavior probably should have further trained the electronics so that it does not collide with an intersection with a red light. This kind of error can be fatal.

In the latest Tesla firmware, 2020.24.5.1, cars will stop stopping at a green traffic light and will pass the intersection... However, they will only do this when a car is driving in front of them (read: another car will confirm that the light is green) and when they are driving straight ahead. When turning in any direction, the driver will still have to follow the car and press the accelerator pedal at the right time (source).

What happens when two Tesla cars on autopilot pass an intersection? As you can guess, the former will start to slow down, so the latter will do the same. They will overcome the crossword puzzle only when the driver of the first car helps the electronics make a decision.

Note from the editors of www.elektrowoz.pl: I am afraid of Polish software modifications, in which the machine will calculate all the necessary values to jump to the "late green" 😉
