Production of the Hyundai Kona Electric in Korea has been discontinued, but batteries continue to be recalled due to fire hazards.

The Kona Electric will be phased out globally as the automaker pins hopes on its first all-electric crossover, the Ioniq 5.

Hyundai had to recall many of its vehicles due to various breakdowns that compromised the safety of the owners. There are even rumors that the Hyundai Kona Electric will disappear in its country of origin., Korea.

Hyundai stopped production of the Kona Electric for the domestic market for the first time to phase out the recalled model due to a battery fire and shift its focus to the Ioniq 5 electric vehicles.

This car was a bestseller in 2018 when the car was launched, but the image of this car has been affected by all the battery fires and 75,680 vehicles that the automaker and LG Energy Solution Ltd had to recall.

The recall also extended to the United States, although a Hyundai spokesman told Roadshow that the company has no plans to stop production of the Kona Electric in the United States at this time.

“The production of Kona electric vehicles has been halted since March in response to national demand and restructuring of the assembly line for new electric vehicles,” a company spokesman said. "(Company) will continue to export Kona electric vehicles to overseas markets."

Hyundai will only sell Kona electric vehicles in stock for the domestic market, while continuing to export them to overseas markets, the company said.

All indications are that Kona Electric will begin to be phased out everywhere, and the automaker has high hopes for its first all-electric crossover, the Ioniq 5.

Hyundai will focus on the Ioniq 5 as its flagship EV.

The Ioniq 5 is based on Hyundai Motor Group's custom BEV architecture called the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), allowing it to have unique proportions on a longer wheelbase.

The Ioniq 5 offers an innovative interior design with sustainable materials at many touchpoints, high performance combined with ultra-fast charging and vehicle charging (V2L) functionality, and advanced connectivity and driver assistance features that offer the best in-car experience while ensuring safety. .
