Flushing the cooling system - how to do it? Check how to flush the cooling system

Some parts of the car may get dirty, and not just the outside of the car. Flushing the cooling system is necessary when debris accumulates. How to do it quickly and efficiently? First of all, make a plan of action. You don't have to worry about flushing your cooling system doing any harm if you follow all the instructions.

How to flush the cooling system and what impurities can you find in it?

Flushing the cooling system is necessary when it is dirty. What can cause it to stop working properly? The reasons may be:

  • oil that enters it through a damaged seal;
  • rust, which may indicate corrosion inside the engine;
  • aluminum;
  • substances and foreign bodies that got there by accident.

As a rule, such a problem is associated with a larger malfunction that affects not only the cooling system itself. However, this is not the norm.

Flushing the cooling system - when to use?

Before you learn how to flush the cooling system, you first need to determine if it is needed.. Thanks to the cooling system, the engine is guaranteed to run freely. It doesn't overheat, so it won't burn out and last longer in an efficient way. An efficient cooling system affects, for example, fuel consumption, defroster or interior heating.

If you're noticing that your car isn't performing well in general, it might be time to flush your cooling system.

How to clean the cooling system in a car?

You can clean the cooling system with a special chemical solution. However, one of the most important steps during this procedure is to ventilate the system. If you don't, your car may stop working. Excess air can damage the cooling system, causing the engine to overheat. This, in turn, even leads to its serious failure. Keep this in mind when deciding whether to flush the cooling system.

Coolant fluid is a product available at most automotive stores, both offline and online. You can also get it at a gas station. It is not expensive. It costs about 13-15 zł, although, of course, you can bet on more expensive liquid. Choose the one recommended for your car model.

How to flush the cooling system - change the fluid!

The fluid used after flushing the cooling system can be adjusted by following simple guidelines:

  • if your car was manufactured before 1996, use G11 type fluid;
  • cars made between 1996 and 2008 will perform better if you fill them with G12, G12+ or G12++ fluids;
  • the latest vehicles will use G13 fluids, which need to be changed at least once every 5 years.
