Tesla firmware 2020.40 with minor Bluetooth and clipboard tweaks. 2020.40.1 rides on green

The latest 2020.40 software is starting to reach Tesla owners, Electrek reports. So far, two new features have been noticed in the update: the ability to select a preferred Bluetooth device and block clipboard access with a PIN. In turn, in version 2020.40.1, it became possible to independently drive through the green light.

The first novelty is an option Priority Bluetooth devicewhich allows you to select the preferred Bluetooth device for this driver [profile]. This is important if the car is used by several people and all drivers have telephones connected to the car. After selecting the preferred phone, Tesla will first try to connect to the selected device, and only then will it start looking for other smartphones in the area (source).

Second option Glove box PIN, allows you to protect your clipboard with a 4-digit PIN. Option available partially Management -> Security -> Glovebox PIN .

This option only applies to vehicles in which the glovebox can only be accessed from the screen, ie Tesla Model 3 and Y. In Tesla Model S / X, the glovebox is opened by a button located on the cockpit.

There is no mention of any major autopilot / FSD updates in firmware 2020.40, but it's worth adding that if implemented, they usually come out during runtime. This was the case with version 2020.36:

Tesla 2020.40.1 software confirms the words just written

It turns out that at the time the article about the 2020.40 firmware was published, the Electrek portal already had information about the 2020.40.1 version. They confirm the words written above (paragraph below the photo): in the latest version of the program, Autopilot is able to independently cross the intersection to green light.

So far, this art was only possible in the United States, when we drove straight ahead and “with a guide,” that is, behind the car in front of us. From 2020.40.1, when a car sees a green light, it can cross the intersection on its own. The description states that a car-guide is no longer required (source).

The previous restrictions remain in effect, i.e. Autopilot / FSD has all functions only in the USA and only when driving straight ahead... Tesla does not yet know how to spin on its own, but, according to the manufacturer, such an opportunity will appear over time.

According to the TeslaFi portal, 2020.40 software has appeared in three versions: 2020.40, 2020.40.0.1 i 2020.40.0.4 (a source). However, most Tesla owners are still getting 2020.36 firmware, mostly 2020.36.11.
