Anti-theft systems: mechanical or satellite?
It is simply impossible to foresee all the risks that accompany a motorist. But, one of them - the safety of the car, you can almost always calculate, to the smallest detail, and take measures to minimize it. Pay attention, dear car owners, we did not write to eliminate completely, we wrote to minimize.
Classification of car safety equipment
It is for the maximum security of the car, as a constant object of "hunting" of various kinds of intruders, that there are car alarms and anti-theft systems. Again, pay attention to the division: alarms and anti-theft systems, and there is a difference between them. So let's try to figure it out - what is the difference and how to be?
- Mechanical anti-theft systems for cars - mechanical (arc, pin) locks for gearboxes and steering systems. Bear-Lock, Mul-T-Lock. Modern mechanical anti-theft systems are earth and sky compared to the systems of the 90s (remember the “crutch” on the steering wheel).
- Electronic anti-theft systems (immobilizer) is a “fancy” electronic circuit that works to prevent the operation of any car systems without signals from “friend or foe” electronic tags. On the one hand, this is charming and, at the same time, the electronics make the car vulnerable to a professional car thief with his electronic assistants - code grabbers, etc. In addition to creating comfortable conditions for the driver: open the doors, adjust the positions of the seats or the steering wheel, warm up the engine (these factors are good for the distributor's marketing move), we are interested in safety. The system blocks the engine, interrupts the fuel supply or any electrical circuit. That is, the car stops moving or a malfunction is simulated.
- Car alarm - it is hardly possible to call this anti-theft system, which is why it is called "alarm". The main function of a traditional car alarm is to report to the owner about an attempt to break into a car. This function is carried out: by a sound signal, visually (light bulbs) and by means of a message to a key fob or mobile phone.
- Satellite anti-theft systems - this security tool has incorporated all the latest technological advances and is the most optimal way to secure the car from theft or opening. But! Although satellite anti-theft systems are 3 in 1, they are still only a means of signaling a violation of the peace of the car.
The blinking "pipikalka" still notifies, the feedback notifies the owner or the security console, the immobilizer blocks, the GPRS module allows you to track the location of the car in real time - and the car was stolen.
Is there a way out or not? Of course there is.
Expert advice for car safety
The points below are unlikely to be 100% helpful for one reason. If your car was “ordered” for theft, then professionals will do it, and they have not been working with the “gop-stop” method for a long time. Stealing an expensive prestigious car is like creating an imperishable piece of music - a long, creative and professional process.
We initially deliberately incorrectly posed the question in the title of the topic. Because anti-theft systems mechanical and satellite anti-theft systems cannot exist without each other. This is an axiom if you want to truly secure a car. Only a comprehensive organization of the car's security system is a solution to the problem. But before that, a couple of rules:
- Never install a mechanical anti-theft system for a car and a satellite anti-theft system at the same service (we immediately apologize to conscientious installers, but very frequent cases of installers participating in thefts make us give such advice).
- When choosing a satellite anti-theft system, pay least attention to the dealer's "funny stories" about those comfortable services that the system can do (move chairs, warm up the interior, etc.). After all, you choose not a Negro with a fan, but a guardian warrior for the safety of the car.
- Therefore, your attention should be directed specifically to anti-theft functions. If you are installing a satellite anti-theft system, then most likely it is for a car model that already has enough comfort.
- When setting the immobilizer function to stop any car system, make a temporary delay of 2-3 minutes after the start of movement. And never keep the immobilizer tag on the same key fob as the ignition key.
- For what? For your personal safety. It is not uncommon for car thieves not to bother opening the car - this is the time and risk of falling into the harsh hands of the capture group.
- Theft is commonplace - you are simply thrown out of the car after you have started it, or stopped at some place. And here the attacker must go in his direction, and you quickly run to the other side for 2-3 minutes. When the immobilizer works and the car stalls, you will be far from each other.
- Are you surprised? But in vain. In this case, you will not be taken hostage, and the satellite anti-theft system will do its job: the immobilizer will turn on and inform the security console about the theft and its location.
The conclusion is clear: the safety of your car is a whole complex of measures, which includes mechanical blocking and a satellite anti-theft system.
