Anti-theft locks - manual

It has long been known that lovers of other people's property mostly like cars. How to make life difficult for them?

Types of locks

  • Steering wheel locks - Mechanical devices that prevent the steering wheel from turning are very popular. You can buy them for around PLN 50-70. They are attached directly to the steering wheel or connect the steering wheel to the clutch pedal. These locks differ in the quality of the materials used, the types of locks, etc. There is one feature that all these locks have in common: inefficiency - they are not a barrier to thieves. If the lock does not open or cut off - you can always cut the steering wheel ... in short - a waste of money on this type of lock.
  • Pedal lock - Another way to protect your car from theft is to combine the brake and clutch pedals. This prevents the transmission from being engaged when the vehicle is started. If the lock is made of good material, then it can save our car - there is little space under the steering wheel and poor access with a saw :)) The main disadvantage of the pedal lock - the way it is put on - takes several minutes, and you also have to bend over.
  • Gearbox locks – This lock is designed to prevent gear shifting, which interferes with the normal driving of the vehicle and makes it difficult to get the vehicle onto a trailer. Many technical solutions are used here. The simplest locks are mounted above the tunnel - in their case, it is enough to cut off the gear lever and you can safely leave in your car 🙁 Newer locks are installed inside the tunnel - this is already a big challenge. The latest solution is electromechanical locks. Closing of the reducer is controlled in the same way as an alarm - using a remote control. Electromechanical interlocks are the most effective.

Where to install the lock

As with an alarm, visit a licensed service center to install a lock. You should also pay attention to the appearance of the workshop in which the lock (or alarm) is to be installed - car thieves have a very specific appearance. If a young man, dressed in a tracksuit and all in gold, leaning against a black BMW (it could be an Audi or a BMW), is talking friendly with mechanics (locksmiths, specialists), maybe it's better to look for another factory :))

Which lock to install

The best solutions are usually the most expensive. It is unprofitable to put locks on the steering wheel, as they are not very effective. It is better to install one more expensive lock than two cheaper ones. I especially recommend gear locks installed inside the tunnel, and if we can save time by putting in a pedal lock, it is also worth having such protection.
