Checking the coolant before winter

Checking the coolant before winter It’s getting colder outside, so you need to prepare for sub-zero temperatures. Let's take care of our car today. One such step is to check the coolant, as the wrong type of coolant can lead to a serious malfunction.

Checking the coolant before winterSo, let's start by removing the old fluid from the radiator. In this case, the engine should be warm, so you should easily drain the coolant from the entire system, because the thermostat will be open. On some vehicles, it may be necessary to drain the radiator and cylinder block.

To clean the cooling system, fill it with water. Then we start the engine, after warming up we turn off, drain the liquid and fill in a new, clean coolant for the radiator. Remember to dilute the coolant according to the manufacturer's recommendations in the case of coolant concentrate. After changing the fluid, do not forget to bleed the cooling system.

So the question arises “how to maintain the cooling system”? - In this system, the channels of the radiator and heater are most susceptible to corrosion. Be sure to check the coolant level regularly. If we notice that it is low, it may cause the engine or cylinder head to overheat. When we notice significant leaks, it remains to replace the radiator with a new one. It is also worth asking from time to time, for example when visiting a service station to check the quality of the coolant. “Most workshops are equipped with the appropriate instruments to check the liquid solidification point,” says Marek Godziska, Technical Director of Auto-Boss.
