Most often, a category B driver's license is enough to drive, but drivers must remember some safety rules.

If the total weight of the motorhome does not exceed 3,5 tons, it can be driven by a driver with a category B driving license. However, this does not mean that such a vehicle is driven in the same way as a conventional car. The dimensions of a motorhome that is taller, longer and wider than cars can be a problem.

We must keep this in mind, especially when parking and passing through narrow gates or streets, as well as when turning. Let's try to slow down and stay in the middle of our lane so as not to hit the car in the next lane. In turn, the height of our vehicle means that tree branches located low above the road or signs protruding above the road lane can be dangerous for us. We must also avoid underground parking.

The speed at which we are moving must also match the size of the vehicle. Because of its weight, the stopping distance of a motorhome is longer than that of a small car. It will also be more difficult to overtake, for which we need more space.

Let's also watch out for obstacles such as walkways or speed bumps. They need to be overcome in a motorhome more slowly than in a car, says Krzysztof Pela, an expert at the Renault Driving School.

In addition to safety, a lower speed can also reduce fuel consumption.

Although we cannot use the interior mirror while driving a motorhome, the use of side mirrors is of great importance, especially when we are just getting used to driving a vehicle of this size. Mirrors help the driver to maintain the correct distance from the axle, the edge of the road and obstacles, as well as to park the car correctly.

When planning a trip, be reasonable - we cannot exceed the permissible total weight, which takes into account not only the weight of cargo, but also passengers. All luggage must be secured, as loose items can be fatal to passengers in the event of sudden braking or collision.

For greater stability of the car, we will make sure that its center is as low as possible, so place heavier luggage in low-lying compartments.

When driving a motorhome, the same rules apply as in the case of a passenger car. All passengers must wear seat belts and children must be transported in specially selected child seats.
