Extended test: Peugeot 3008 Allure 1.2 PureTech 130 EAT

Peugeot succeeded in this in a very short time, after being considered for a long time as a brand that almost no one else can decide. But this is solved by their novelties. As soon as the new 308s and 2008s arrived, customers started coming back. It's the same with the second generation 3008. The completely fashionable bodywork, a crossover with a modern design, ensures that people on the road behind the car will still be looking, even if it will soon be in the public eye for a year. The assortment of equipment met with a good response, be it already included in the packages (most often buyers choose the richest, Allure, Active is also considered quite acceptable) or additionally. The motor offer is also interesting. For those who drive a little more a year and have not heard of diesel emissions in the past few years, the 1,6-liter HDi is very convincing here. Anyone new to the 3008 will be surprised by the performance and responsiveness of a turbocharged petrol engine with just three cylinders built into our 3008.

In an extended test, it proved to be decisive in combination with a six-speed automatic transmission. The driver also has a button for a sportier shift program and two levers for manual shifting under the steering wheel. But in normal use, the transmission electronics are good and there is always enough power at the driver's disposal, and we quickly find that he adapts well to our driving style and selects the most suitable transmission. The standard equipment of the Allure is really rich, the ride is comfortable and pleasant. Already the entrance might be a surprise if we sit in it for the first time at night. The exterior lighting package makes a good impression. In general, Peugeot also pays great attention to LED technology in lighting equipment. In addition to daytime running lights and rear lights, there are also turn signals and additional floor lights when leaving (installed in the exterior rear-view mirrors). Our test model also had LED headlights. You have to pay for them (1.200 euros - "full LED technology"), but with them a night trip on a well-lit road in front of the car is worth the extra cost.

Once upon a time, French cars were considered very comfortable for overcoming small and large road bumps. Over the past two decades, this view has changed significantly. This was taken care of by manufacturers who, for various reasons, abandoned the concern for good road comfort. Even so, it must be admitted that Peugeot is undergoing a major overhaul. During an extended test, we were able to find out how pleasant it is if the chassis and seats do not transfer all the bumps to the bodies of those in the car. The seats in the 3008 already promised an appearance, ours were dressed in rather bright covers. While at first they seem like they don't provide enough traction, on longer journeys it turns out to be the opposite. They also take good care of the ride to be comfortable even when the 3008 overcomes medium, i.e. potholed Slovenian roads.

Already in our previous reports or tests of the new 3008, we found good points such as attractive looks and rich standard equipment with state-of-the-art digital gauges, a large central touchscreen and a small and easy-to-use steering wheel (i-cockpit). ... It also meets safety requirements that are only intended to provide the least painful consequences in the event of a collision. Of course, there are also less acceptable solutions. Even after long-term use of the car, some are not convinced by the small, rounded and low-set steering wheel (which is much more like racing cabs than bars, where only the lower part is flattened). While we felt in our first test of the 3008 we also needed "clutch control", the excellent performance of the automatic transmission easily replaces this additional feature.

The efficiency of turbocharged gasoline engines is largely dependent on the driver's “heavy” leg, so sometimes the right solution cannot be found. If you settle for a quiet ride (which the 3008 serves excellently), the fuel bill will be moderate. Anyone who doesn't or doesn't know how to brake on the road may have to spend a little money on speeding tickets in addition to higher fuel bills. The choice is yours, it's good if we make the right choice.

It could also be a Peugeot 3008.
