The Genesis GV70 midsize SUV is one of three new models to receive five stars in the latest ANCAP safety rating.

Three new models recently introduced to the Australian market received the highest safety rating.

The local independent motor vehicle safety body, ANCAP, has awarded the Genesis GV70 midsize SUV, BMW iX large SUV and Volkswagen Caddy Maxi passenger car five stars.

The GV70 petrol or diesel ($66,400 to $83,276 plus road costs) scored 89 percent in both adult occupant protection and child protection, 64 percent in protecting vulnerable road users, and 87 percent in safety.

ANCAP CEO Carla Horweg said, "The Genesis GV70 offers a wide range of safety features and reliable results in all areas of ANCAP assessment."

Meanwhile, the all-electric iX ($135,900 to $169,900 plus travel expenses) registered 91% in adult occupant protection, 88% in child protection, 73% in protecting vulnerable road users, and 78% in safety.

“BMW has once again put safety at the forefront of the design and specifications of its vehicles, and the iX results show that BMW is unwilling to compromise on safety for an alternative engined vehicle,” said Ms Horweg.

The Gasoline or Diesel Caddy Maxi ($46,140 to $57,690 plus travel expenses) scored 84% adult occupant protection, 86% child protection, 69% protection for vulnerable road users, and 79% safety.

Ms Horweg said: "Volkswagen has made notable safety improvements in the new generation Caddy passenger car over the outgoing model and should be congratulated for earning a five-star ANCAP safety rating."

Released in June, the GV70's maximum safety rating only applies to its three four-cylinder variants, with the exception of the single V6 version. Conversely, the iX and Caddy Maxi apply to the entire range.
