Is the actual Mercedes EQC range confirmed? 417 km WLTP, or 330-360 km in reality?

When the Mercedes EQC pre-sale started, the manufacturer revealed the range determined in accordance with the WLTP procedure. It is 417 kilometers. According to our calculations, this figure corresponds to a range of 330-360 km, or to be more precise: 353/354 km of a real range.

The Mercedes EQC pre-sale has just started. The cheapest version of the car will cost the equivalent of around 316 zlotys (71 euros), but this variant should be available in the second quarter of 281. Now, a limited select group will be able to buy the EQC 2020 400Matic "Edition 4", a special edition that starts at PLN 1886 (€ 376 85).

By the way, we managed to find out the Mercedes EQC power reserve according to the WLTP protocol: 417 kilometers. A similar figure was provided by Audi when it announced that the e-tron will have a range of "up to 417 kilometers under WLTP". "Up to 417 km" has become 328 kilometers of real range, calculated using the EPA procedure.

The Audi e-tron has a battery with a usable capacity of 83,6 kWh (total: 95 kWh), while the Mercedes EQC boasts 80 kWh, but we don't know if that's net or gross (total). At the same time, the Mercedes EQC is slightly smaller and lighter than the e-tron, so our calculations show that the range of the Mercedes EQC “Edition 1886” should be between 320-360 km on a single charge. . The exact number is 353-354 km, but you need to approach it at a certain distance.

It's not amazing value... The best results, for example, have the Kia e-Niro (385 km) or the direct competitor of the Mercedes EQC, the Jaguar I-Pace (377 km), not to mention the Tesla Model Y (400+ km guaranteed). Of the recently unveiled electric crossovers, only the Audi e-tron (328 km) is doing worse.

When driving on a highway at 120 km / h, electric vehicles tend to use up energy faster and "lose" 25-33 percent of their actual range. This assumes that on the Mercedes EQC highway it will travel 210-270 kilometers without recharging.. In the Mercedes EQC AMG Line / Line Premium and Edition 1886 variants with 20-inch wheels, these values \u19b\uXNUMXbare even a few percent lower - the cheapest version of the car runs on XNUMX-inch wheels.

Out of curiosity, it should be added that during the premiere Mercedes talked about the EQC's energy consumption of 22,2 kWh / 100 km (see video below). Taking into account a possible buffer in a 2-4 kWh battery, we get (80-3) / 22,2 = 3,47, i.e. 347 kilometers on a single charge. This figure is in good agreement with the previous estimate.
