Reflexes on country roads

Do you have the right reflexes?

On the roads, especially in the countryside, we like to enjoy the countryside, pick up a little speed and ride in the wind 🙂 Especially on sunny days! However, despite your qualities, you must remember that danger can come from anywhere, when you are a biker! Therefore, it is important to have the right reflexes.

On road

Signboards : We all love to see this sign ... it's probably our favorite, let's face it 😉

It indicates the sequence of turns, but remember that it is basically a sign indicating danger, so be vigilant.

Gaze position : On the road, especially if you are a beginner, you tend to look at the ground directly in front of the wheel. Guilt ! Always direct your gaze as far as possible. For example, as soon as you enter a turn, look for an exit, your trajectory will be easier. This is one of the best tips for bikers.

The vagaries of the road : On a dry road, always beware of traces of moisture. It could be oil or fuel, very slippery. Avoid them if possible and don't look at the stain on the ground - this is the best way to get rid of it. The same goes for unforeseen obstacles in the road (potholes, rocks, gravel, etc.). Instead, set a dot next to it and it will be easier for you to avoid it. Finally, keep in mind that wild animals (deer, wild boar, rabbit, fox…) can appear on country roads at any moment.

Our environment

Living place : When approaching a residential area, do not be afraid to slow down, even if there is no specified speed limit. A pedestrian, animal, or balloon can show up and deprive you of funds.

Intersections : systematically slow down when announcing an intersection! Even if you have preferential right of way, other road users do not always comply with the rules of the road. And most importantly, do not overtake until you cross the intersection.

Downtown : be pa-ra-no-ïaque! Keep track of all intersections, road conditions, exits from garages and shops! Slow down and take a close look at tall vehicles that might obscure a pedestrian who is about to cross the road.

Other road users

Other bikers : don't forget to say hello or bow to your friends! But if you're in the middle of a tricky maneuver, a nod is fine too :)

Vehicles stopped : Beware of cars with open doors or trunk. The handler can walk the dog, children can appear ... Slow down!

Other cars : When you meet another vehicle on the road, try to keep to the right, especially on small country roads and around corners. Some drivers have the annoying habit of entering your lane or cutting a bend.

Excess : Before overtaking, especially when overtaking multiple vehicles, make sure the vehicle in front has seen you. A good way to verify this is to look at the driver in the rearview mirror.

Of course, this list is not exhaustive, your reflexes work every day. The best advice is to always be vigilant.

Also keep in mind that you must be visible to other road users. How? "Or" What? With the right equipment:

  • vest over a motorcycle jacket or jacket with reflective systems such as the black and yellow Canyon LT All One jacket
  • reflectors on the helmet
  • Cosmo Connected brake light
