This is called the catoptric system. To focus the light beam and prevent it from scattering, a lens is placed in front of this system: then we are talking about catadioptric device... Thanks to its retina, people can see light sources in the dark if they are of low intensity.

Thus, the purpose of the reflector is to capture the human retina in order to attract the attention of the motorist and warn him of potential danger: the presence of another vehicle, signs, etc.

Indeed, on the road, reflectors are used not only on bicycles and cars, but also in many signage elements. This is the case, for example, with safety devices that are placed on the ground along the steps.

📍 Where are the reflectors on the car?

In a car, reflectors or reflectors are part of the optics of the car, just like the rest of the headlights. There are several of them, of different colors:

Step 1. Disassemble the bumper.

Depending on your vehicle, it is sometimes necessary to remove the bumper to replace the reflector. This disassembly varies from car to car, but usually you need to unscrew the mounting screws and then turn it towards you. Sometimes you need to detach the lug in the middle of the bumper or remove the mudguards before grabbing the bumper.

Step 2: remove the reflector

Reflector mounts vary, but often they are only clipped. In this case, you will have to go to the back to easily remove it. If it is already damaged, pull it firmly enough to disconnect it. You can use a screwdriver to pry.

Step 3. Install a new reflector.

Make sure you get a replacement reflector of the correct size and shape. To install it, it is usually sufficient to secure it in place. Feel free to clean it up sooner.
