Clutch pedal adjustment on Geely SK

The Chinese Geely CK supermini class sedan is equipped with a manual transmission. And this means the mandatory presence in the car of such a node as. With its help, the torque from the engine is transmitted to the manual transmission. To shift gears, the clutch must be disengaged. This is done by pressing the appropriate pedal. In order for the engagement and disengagement of the clutch to occur reliably and clearly, the pedal must be correctly adjusted.

If the drive is not adjusted properly, the actuation point may be, for example, in the highest position of the pedal or, on the contrary, it must be recessed all the way to the floor. The problem is not only that it causes inconvenience to the driver. When the pedal operates this way, it is possible that the clutch may not disengage completely, which means that the clutch disc will wear out at an accelerated pace and the service life of the diaphragm spring, release bearing and other parts will be reduced. The process of replacing the clutch in a Geely CK cannot be called simple, and the cost of the parts is by no means cheap. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to adjusting the drive, especially since it will not take much time and will not require special skills or tools.

      Basic adjustments

The clutch drive may be different depending on the modification of the engine installed in the Geely CK. So, with a unit having a working volume of 1,3 liters, a cable drive is used, and with a one and a half liter hydraulic drive. Accordingly, the free play adjustment (on/off points) is slightly different. But this does not affect the adjustment of the pedal height, it is the same for both types of drive.

Normally, the clutch pedal should be at a height of 180 ... 186 mm from the floor, approximately at the same level as the brake pedal.

The full pedal travel should be 134 ... 142 mm.

Free play refers to the distance the pedal is displaced when it is pressed until the drive begins to act on the clutch, that is, in the case of a hydraulic drive, until the master cylinder rod begins to move.

Free play is absolutely essential, it allows you to feel the moment of actuation and ensures that the clutch is fully engaged and disengaged. In fact, by adjusting the pedal free play distance, the clutch engagement / disengagement point is adjusted.

      Adjusting the Pedal Height

The height can be changed with the adjusting bolt. Screwing it in or out will move the pedal up or down. Loosen the locknut before turning the bolt. Tighten the locknut after adjustment is complete. A large bolt with a nut at the base of the pedal cannot be overlooked or confused with other fasteners. Needed to make adjustments.

      Free play setting

To gain access to the hydraulic cylinder rod, you need to remove the panel behind the pedals. There is a lock nut on the master cylinder rod that must be loosened with . After that, turn the rod around its axis in the desired direction.

If the free play is too small, the stem must be rotated counterclockwise, as if shortening it. If the free play is too large, the stem must be turned in a clockwise direction. Usually the stem turns quite easily by hand, but if necessary, you can use pliers.

Adjust little by little, checking the amount of free play each time, until you achieve the desired result. Normal free play should be within 10 ... 30 mm. When finished setting, secure the locknut.

For a cable drive, the difference lies in the fact that the adjustment of the free play is carried out by the adjusting nut on the clutch cable.

At the end of the setup, you should check the correct functioning of the drive in real operation - pedal travel, clutch engagement / disengagement moment, no problems when shifting gears. But you need to remember that an incorrectly adjusted clutch can cause an emergency on the road, so it is better to check it in a safe area. If you are not satisfied with the result, repeat the setup procedure.

      Conclusion

Clutch drive hydraulics can also cause this unit to malfunction and therefore require attention. It uses the same working fluid as the brake system, and the common expansion tank is divided into two halves - one for the brakes, the other for clutch control.

Do not forget to periodically check the level and quality, and change it every 2 years. If necessary, bleed the hydraulic system to get rid of air in the system.
