Every year, various and more advanced alarm systems appear on the automotive market, such as, for example, motor protection relay, which is designed to automatically control the electric fuel pump. Consider the importance of this system for your vehicle.
Engine protection relay - what is it?
Its purpose is to instantly turn off the power from the pump during an emergency stop of the engine. In an extreme situation, when the driver is simply unable to turn off the ignition (the car has rolled over, the driver has lost consciousness or is seriously injured), in the absence of a protective relay, the pump will continue to supply fuel, which will inevitably lead to a fire.
In addition, there are various relays that protect the engine from overheating or control its operation. Most often, motorists are faced with signaling devices, the main purpose of which is to protect the car engine, or rather block it when trying to steal it. The blocking relay previously used on cars was highly reliable, easy to install and small in size, which made it quite easy to hide it in the intricacies of automotive wiring.
But he had one significant drawback - to turn it off, you only needed to connect the power or, on the contrary, de-energize the circuit, which for a professional hijacker is mere trifles. Therefore, the question of whether engine protection is needed in the current criminal situation is far from rhetorical.
Do you need engine protection - modern developments
Significantly increased the reliability of the burglar alarm with the advent of digital blocking relays for the power unit, which are better known as single-wire, wireless, microimmobilizers or code relays. Their peculiarity lies in the fact that the device of such devices contains, in addition to the relay itself, also an electronic filling, which directly controls the electrical mechanism, and it is very difficult to turn it off without a specific encrypted command.
A big plus of such a system is the ability to simultaneously connect an arbitrary number of relays, which greatly complicates its shutdown.
One of the latest innovations is a security relay equipped with a motion sensor that stops the engine at the first attempts to move the car. It is quite difficult to neutralize such a system, since it is not possible to scan it on a stationary car.
In addition to the threat of theft from parking lots, domestic roads, or rather, their absence, pose no less danger to cars. No one is immune from the fact that after the next turn on the path there will not be a giant pothole or puddle, under which lies no less pothole or an open sewer well.
Mechanical protection of the car engine - choose the material
If there is practically nothing to help the running gear in an already happened situation, then a pre-installed metal engine protection can effectively protect against a lot of problems associated with repairing a damaged crankcase. The main requirements that apply to modern methods of protecting the crankcase of an automobile engine from mechanical damage are, first of all, reliability, rigidity and structural strength.
All these criteria are fully met by the steel engine protection, which practically does not affect the speed of the car and does not create an excessive load on its chassis. One of the disadvantages of some protection models is their high noise level, which manifests itself when the car is moving, which is caused by interaction with the body subframe.
Plastic engine protection is practically devoid of the disadvantages listed above. The composite material from which it is made is more than 2,5 times stronger than steel samples. The only drawback of plastic samples is their excessive fragility, which was the main reason for increasing the thickness of the composite protection to 12 mm. In addition, the material with a crack cannot be repaired and restored.
