The body position sensor is part of the automatic lighting system. Used in adaptive lighting systems where the light is adjusted automatically. Based on the data that the headlight control unit receives from the sensor, they are adjusted.

The headlights are adjusted relative to the road so that at any tilt of the car body they shine strictly in a certain direction, without blinding oncoming traffic and without compromising visibility.

The main disease of these sensors is rust on the rods. Due to the not entirely thought out location (chassis, on the levers), the sensor is constantly exposed to moisture and dirt flying under the wheels. As a result, if you do not carry out maintenance and preventive maintenance, then very soon the sensor fails. This manifests itself in the form of a malfunction of the headlights, they can “fall out”, that is, shine down, or vice versa, depending on the position in which the rod is stuck.

In this article, I will talk about how to troubleshoot a Ford Kuga 1 body position sensor at home.

So, we have: a broken mount of the body position sensor (BPC) and a rusty stuck rod. It was decided to weld, grind and paint the support (code: 8V41-13D036-AE). The rods were rusty, the hinges too, so the mechanism did not make any adjustments. If the rust is minor, you can try to restore the hinges, otherwise the entire rod will need to be replaced.

If you carefully remove the pressure boot, you can try to restore its performance. Treat with rust converter, fill with grease and close the lid.

The new rod is adjusted in length by trying on the old rod. We fix the length with a lock nut, observing the angle of rotation. The bracket itself can be bought new, but in this case it was easier and faster to clean, weld and paint.
