There are several ways to repair a spark plug well with or without removing the cylinder head, which we review in our file. But during the rebuilding of the Kawasaki zx6r, I decided to disassemble the cylinder head and go through a professional to install the insert or the helicopter.

I go to Bouvet Rectification's in Nanterra to get the candle back in shape. If I bring him there in person, it’s because I like to see who I trust to act, just as I like to soak in the atmosphere, the place and the know-how. And I am not disappointed! I am discovering an amazing place. Surprisingly, but also surprisingly empty. Oh, is there anyone?

The brand has a very good reputation. In any case, this is a unique place of its kind, where father and son have been judging for a long time. Time seems to be on hold. Not the soul that lives, despite the meeting and previous calls to warn me of my arrival (less than 20 minutes ago). I leave the cylinder head on the counter with confidence and accompany it with a nice little note. In case I take a picture, you never know, sometimes you separate the cylinder head and me there.

The parts I see are just impressive in quality and I think when things roll, this is really the place to go with your eyes closed: they know how to redo the engines here! In this gigantic and timeless workshop, which I will attend a total of 3 times (3 times empty!), The engines are reshaped again. All types of engines. From smallest to largest, from truck to model, in a way. And we know how to repair things, as evidenced by the places and exhibits. Wonderful. There is trust. A candle well should not pose any problem for these professionals. Unless, of course, I am in the right place, but at the wrong time. What's the matter.

I'm giving you the details, but it was tedious to get the fix I wanted. As proof, I have never been able to meet the masters of this place. And that, of course, had to fall on me. But the memory remains excellent, as does the work done. Finally done. So I don't know which method was used or what type of insertion is in place. On the other hand, I know that there is no worry, and I see that everything is perfect: nothing exceeds. I slip the candle I took into the renovated well, I fuck it: flawless!

The result was worth it

As a result, there is no workshop immersion, no gesture detection, no cylinder head rehabilitation photograph. Disappointingly, I am getting my share back by paying the amount requested from another craftsman present that day, who allegedly repaired the cylinder head on behalf of Bouvets. It's good. About 25 euros, the price of a friend, this is a godsend. The rate is quite reasonable considering the work done. Title privilege? maybe, but above all, a welcome commercial gesture from competent professionals. Otherwise, the price is around € 30.

I go back to the garage to participate, happy. With my beautiful refurbished cylinder head in hand, I take the opportunity to swap out plugs that don't look very good. For safety reasons, I am replacing them with new ones again. I put those in place aside, giving them the opportunity to check them more accurately later. As a reminder, you shouldn't neglect the verification and maintenance of the spark plugs.

Repairing the motorcycle will be able to move forward. We can lift the cylinder head. However, I will face my first big difficulties, and they have nothing to do with mechanics. Finally, more precisely, I have already met with them, but have not yet told you about them ...

Remember

  • Re-threading is not costly, regardless of the method chosen. On the other hand, the time and know-how will vary depending on whether you decide to dismantle the cylinder head.
  • If the repair is done by a mounted jerk, calling a professional is a plus, as you have to avoid any bad gestures and chips in the cylinder.
  • If the repairs are in order, you might consider doing it yourself, being well equipped. It takes a lot longer ... and it doesn't have to be cheaper.
  • Even if it means leaving the cylinder head on the straightener, more can be asked for: check coops, complete cleanings, etc. It's up to you to see according to your budget.
  • The connecting plane will be all it can do again to accommodate the new cylinder head seal.
