Renault Grand Scenic1.9 dCi (96 kW) Privilege

Who said more is more? A whopping 85 percent of customers in the previous Scenic family opted for the shorter Grand over the longer, giving engineers a lot of work to prepare the next generation that's on the way: it's possible the Grand will catch the shorter one. and the younger brother?

This will be difficult as Slovenian buyers prefer to buy slightly smaller, shorter, less wasteful one-room apartments (both in terms of energy and space) and cheaper. Thus, one should not simply conclude that Negrand is simply better. As for whom!

Grand will be allowed to be adopted after the end of the two week test as he has fully convinced us of his family spirit. Outside, due to the significantly larger surfaces and completely different lighting, it will be more difficult to replace it with the Negrand, which is definitely positive. Although the shape of a minivan depends largely on usability, the Grand Scenic is a product of good design.

Large headlights predominate, both front and rear, and the large mask in the front bumper and the wide neck above it are immediately striking. Factory data show that the new Grand has grown by seven centimeters in length and three centimeters in height compared to the previous generation. We would almost dare to say that the gain is noticeable without the use of a meter. As if Grand wanted to catch a bigger Espace.

The Grand front window is interesting because it is curled around the edges, which also means improved visibility and is a beautiful design element. Usually one person sits. High for a bulky dashboard, very soft to the touch. They say that only Europeans are looking for softness in the interior, which means nothing more than that the Grand is made to European taste.

If we start from the end: there is a large rear door, the window of which does not open separately, but there is an ill-fated lock, because of which careless forklifts will knock on bumps. They will be pleased with the fact that it has no sidewalls and a low loading height, as well as a very large trunk with a base 564 liters, under which the sixth and seventh seats are hidden in the flat bottom, both cost an additional 650 euros.

Don't you need them? Then you get a 645-liter base boot, with an average fuel consumption 0 km lower by 1 liter, which is four grams less than CO100 per kilometer. Do you need them? We sincerely hope that you are planning to ride them only for children of average height. With an increase of up to 2 centimeters, there will be no problems, but they will arise when all three types have to be occupied by adult passengers with moderately developed legs. Uhh, some knees won't be the happiest.

In fact, the back seat might be for the mother-in-law, and you should warn her to be careful when moving past the middle row seats in and out of the car. The advantage of the rear seats is their ease of installation. A few inches from the dashboard - your knees in the sky. Very few cars have this much space.

With 170mm longitudinally adjustable type XNUMX seats that can also be adjusted as backrests and fold and tilt forward (no flat bottom) to increase trunk space, and front seat backrest tables are life in the world. The Grand Scenic is very pleasant in the middle. Unless you have a grown-up butt and sit in a moderately modest center seat, which will get on your nerves because of the tight seat belts. Osh.

It's even better to sit in front. Both seats are also height-adjustable as standard on Dynamique equipment, and there is plenty of knee room (especially in front of the front passenger). We haven't mentioned heads yet, but don't worry, you can go for a bunch of hairstyles with any hairstyle in the top five spots. Even with a permanent one. The sensors are located in the middle of the dashboard.

They are digital (TFT-display), in contrast to the right navigation screen, visible in any light, and at the same time offer several views: night (dark background) and day (light background), maybe only speed (always digital). displayed, the tachometer (with a yellow field at 5.500 1.9 rpm, which never reaches the dCi) shows an analog or digital image. Along with the two main sensors, there is already all other information about the temperature, radio receiver and the amount of fuel in the tank, as well as a printout of the trip computer and special functions (automatic parking brake activated ...).

The clock is displayed on the far right of the screen of the navigation system, but, unfortunately, in order for the driver to be able to see it at all, two conditions must be met, which is very rare: there must be no too bright lighting on the street and the navigation system must be switched ... on. There are three sockets, and when the warehouse was flooded, we lacked at least one high-quality one.

Mobile phone, voice recorder, etc. four drawers under carpets in front of the seats, on a shelf in front of the gear lever or in the space for two drinks under it, on a shelf above the driver's left knee, or in a drawer in front of a passenger. Hmm, where did I put my parking ticket?

Don't worry, even though the Grand is over 4 meters tall, it is transparent due to its sharply cut back and large windows, so you shouldn't have any trouble parking or looking around garages. You can also think of the parking sensors, which did not work well in the Scenic test, since the front ones just went crazy and looked like furious screams when we stood at an intersection more than one and a half meters from the car in front. of us. Thank goodness the front and rear sensors can be disabled separately.

It stands convincingly on Grand Scenic Road. The slope is not too much, the ESP automatically turns on at speeds above 50 km / h when turned off. The Grand is not an athlete, it goes to the other extreme - comfort is top notch, especially if we know that the rear axle is semi-rigid. If you're looking for a spacious family car that combines comfort with a capital letter, the Grand Scenica is definitely not to be missed. You can apologize.

The rear, when not loaded, wobbles a little when driving over lateral bumps, and when loaded, the picture is more reassuring, although the Grand also runs very reliably empty, only the feel is better on the full rear. The steering wheel will be more familiar to fans of easy turns. The gear lever is conveniently located, shifting is accurate, and there is still work to be done when changing from one slot to the next.

We believe that things can go even better. The 1-liter 9-kilowatt turbodiesel showed very stable and favorable fuel consumption in the tests: a good eight liters. It is loud on cold starts, but when it gets to operating temperature, you will only hear it during acceleration, and it shouldn't happen very often, as there is enough torque and power at medium revs.

There, at around 1.800 rpm, the dCi is a typical diesel: it hesitates a little, then spits in your hands and grabs to work. 130 dCi, as this version is officially called 1.9 dCi, is one of the most suitable engines for this body. He also confirmed this with flexibility in measurements, where he also showed himself with very short stopping distances.

We recommend choosing a vehicle with a smart key, because there is nothing more beautiful than getting into a car that unlocks itself, pressing the engine start button, driving away, pressing the engine shutdown button and just getting out. The Grand Scenic is self-locking and also takes over the parking brake as standard.

See the list of standard equipment on the technical data page (at the end of the test), just say that the Grand Scenic can also be equipped with USB and AUX slots for connecting music players or USB storage, all side door windows are open. power, both side mirrors on the right, the front passenger seat folds into a table as standard (would you drive anything longer?), the air conditioning in the test Grande was dual-zone, the radio has a Bluetooth interface. It is truly a privilege to have a car that does its best to be part of the family.

Dusan Lukic: Face to face

“The fact that the Grand Scenic is new is obvious from the outside and from the inside as a whole. The new gauges (actually the LCD screen they are painted on) are great. Clear, customizable, readable. At first, they are so carried away that a person ignores the disadvantages for some time: the engine does not work at low revs, then he gets too nervous, it is uncomfortable to sit and the steering wheel is too far away. On the other hand, the new Scenic is also quite wobbly in corners, but at the same time very comfortable on bad roads. Fully family-owned, including the trunk. Choose a better engine (gasoline), and you will not miss it. "

Overall rating (340/420)

  • Grand Scenic is now in our eyes one of the most family cars on the market.

  • Exterior (12/15)

Well done and one of the best limousine vans.

  • Interior (108/140)

The gauge shows that the Toyota Verso tested in the previous edition is more spacious, but the Grand is more convincing with its materials and workmanship.
