Renault Megane Grandtour 1.5 dCi Dynamic Comfort

You will say that this is also a subjective opinion. Actually you are right! However, we dare to go even further - the Grandtour is currently one of the most beautiful or most harmoniously designed vehicles of its type on the market! Wondering if it's that spacious and if it has the right engine in the bow? We have found the answer to this question.

Which engine?

In the stream of modern diesel engines, it is probably difficult for many to turn in the right direction. This one has so much horsepower, the same ones with the same volume have a little more, one consumes less, the other more, the other has to rumble ... Which one to choose?

Renault has allocated three more diesels for the three petrol engines (1.4 16V, 1.6 16V and 2.0 16V) with which the Confort is equipped: 1.5 dCi with 82 hp, 1.5 dCi with 100 hp. and 1.9 dCi 120 hp. We've checked the basics.

The first impression when you insert the card into the slot and press the "START" button is good. The engine responds instantly, even in cold weather, and spins very quietly, as if "feeding" on gasoline rather than gas oil.

Around the city, in denser traffic, it turns out that with enough torque and power, driving the Grandtour is not only a trip, but also a pleasant everyday task. Similarly, we can write to accumulate miles on regional roads. No comments, at least until the first overtaking!

If you want to get as much power from the engine as possible in an instant, it is not fast enough (and therefore safe) to overtake, especially if the reverse traffic is heavy but you are in a hurry. Unfortunately, in this case, every meter of the road that a car with a more powerful engine drives through turns out to be at hand.

On the track, we also lacked engine power.

In order not to be mistaken, the car moves fast enough for the vast majority of drivers. After all, Renault is not stupid, and such an engine was not delivered to the Grandtour so that they would complain later. However, before buying it is useful to know what to expect from a car. The final speed is 170 km / h. For our roads, of course, enough, but if you often travel abroad for long distances, it would probably be much better to consider a 1-liter engine. Or at least about the 9 dCi 1.5 hp engine!

We also advise in a similar way to families (this is what this car is primarily intended for), who usually use the trunk to the last cubic centimeter and carry three other passengers in the back seat. This way you will feel like descending the motorways will be much less stressful if you like dynamic driving (not sporty, make no mistake, for those Renault has a more suitable vehicle available).

Therefore, we were not too surprised by the relatively high average consumption, which in the test was about six liters. For example, when we were in a hurry, it also rose to seven liters. An engine just needs its own if you want to get the best out of it. For information only, the plant claims an average of 4 liters per 6 km for mixed traffic and 100 liters per 5 km for city traffic.

Nice, big, useful

Grandtour looks just beautiful. The lines are clean, the rear has a very nice shape with vertical and pointed taillights at the top. But beauty is not all he possesses. The trunk, which opens high enough to avoid hitting your head on the edge and has a large opening with a flat loading lip, stowed our test case set with ease. In liters, this is 520 liters in the basic position, when the rear seat is divided into thirds, and 1600 liters when folded.

The comfort of the seats is also at a solid level, there is enough legroom and headroom both in the front and in the back. It is also commendable that the driver can easily set the desired driving position, which thus sits well in the hands and contributes to well-being and pleasant ergonomics. In fact, in this Mégane with Dynamique Confort equipment, everything is at your fingertips. From the steering wheel to control your car radio to buttons, switches and precision gear lever.

Considering the fact that the Mégane II has also proven itself in test accidents and has five Euro NCAP stars, safety is one of its greatest assets. Family too.

Therefore, we will not be mistaken if we say that the Mégane Grandtour with its 1.5 dCi engine and the listed equipment is suitable for a relaxed family life. At $ 4 million, it's not too expensive for the basic version, nor is it cheap. Somewhere in the middle.
