Over the course of several years, seven Renault models have been tested in Euro NCAP crash tests - Twingo received three stars, Clio - four. The remaining six cars met strict standards, which allowed them to receive the maximum number of five stars as a result of the tests - Laguna II, Megane II, Espace IV, Vel Satis. The second-generation Scenic compact minivan was the last to join this group, with an overall score of 34.12 out of 37 possible. The design of the Scenic II ensures high passenger safety by minimizing the formation of dents on the body during a collision. Euro NCAP also noted the extremely fine tuning of the individual safety systems that this Renault model is equipped with - six airbags or inertia seat belts with load limiters. Thanks to the use of new grades of steel and materials, Scenic II has a very high ability to absorb and dissipate the energy released during a collision. The front, back and sides of the structure are extremely effective controlled deformation zones.

The idea of the engineers was to create a structure that would absorb and dissipate the force of a collision - deforming not only the part that comes into contact with another car or object in a collision, but also the outermost parts of the body. In addition, the control of the path along which the subassemblies and assemblies move, located in the engine compartment, allows for maximum mutual compression, preventing them from entering the cab. This also made it possible to reduce the so-called. delays affecting users and reducing the risk of injury that could be caused by the uncontrolled entry of a component into a vehicle. The designers have significantly increased the size of the upper part of the A-pillar in order to ensure the distribution of longitudinal forces on the sills and sides of the body. The fuel tank is located in an area less prone to deformation. Front and rear passengers are protected by retractable seat belts with load limiters up to 600 kg, a system already used in the Mégane II. All these elements allowed Renault Scenic II to receive the maximum five-star rating.
