Summer tire rating - what to choose in the 2022 season?

Choosing car tires has never been so difficult! We have at our disposal not only models offered by well-known manufacturers, but also quite a lot of new products, including those from the Far East. To help you choose the right tires, we have prepared a summer tire ranking where we have taken into account the most important questions, for example. grip, stopping distance and hydroplaning. Experts put tested tires to the test every year to help you choose the best tire. Which producer did the best?

Summer tire rating 2022 - who is testing them?

Among the organizations involved in the testing of car tires, organizations from Germany certainly dominate. Our western neighbors are famous for their passion for cars and take safety seriously. It is therefore not surprising that ADAC, GTÜ, numerous car clubs and the editorial offices of the automotive magazines Auto Motor und Sport and Auto Bild are among the most important tire testing organizations. Their experts evaluate in detail the behavior of tires on wet and dry surfaces, braking distances and a number of other parameters that affect safety and fuel consumption.

The best summer tires - always premium

This year, again, there were no surprises - premium models from leading manufacturers took the best places and this segment completely dominated the podium. It is not surprising, because manufacturers are guided by these tire models, considering them as a kind of advertising of their capabilities and technical progress. When choosing tires, you should pay attention to this shelf, although this does not mean that economy models cannot be a good option. So, let's take a look at how the summer tire tests went this year.

Bridgestone Turanza T005 - durable Japanese rubber

A very reliable model that gives very good and reproducible results in tests. The specially developed Nano Pro-tech compound and reinforced steel cord make the tire above average stable and durable (high mileage should not impress). With more cutouts and their respective profile, excellent water evacuation and traction in all conditions have been achieved. This model also offers very low rolling resistance, resulting in not only lower fuel consumption but also quieter operation. Without a doubt, no one who stops at this model will remain dissatisfied.

Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 is one of the best tires of the season

The US offering performed surprisingly well in this year's tests. In four out of five tests, it was the best in terms of driving safety, handling precision and high driving comfort. Regardless of the type of surface and whether it is dry or wet, Goodyear EfficientGrip provides a completely predictable behavior. The tire uses a number of innovative technologies, including Mileage Plus (increased tread flexibility), Wet Braking (modified rubber compound stiffness and redesigned grip edges) and Dry Stability Plus (improved cornering).

Michelin Primacy 4 - will work regardless of the circumstances

The Michelin offering is one of the most durable tires on the market this year. In almost all tests, he took 2-3 place and behaved very predictably - both on dry and wet pavement. The French proposal can be compared with Bridgestone Turanza 4 - in fact, whichever you choose, you should be equally satisfied. Both brands currently offer recommended solid tires in all sizes.

Hankook Ventus Prime 4 - Koreans can offer premium at a good price

This is definitely one of those tires worth buying - not only is it one of the cheapest in the premium segment, but it also scores highly. The asymmetric tread with a special structure, rounded corners of the tread studs, reinforced tire carcass and HSSC rubber compound should have given an excellent product. Under test conditions, it showed excellent driving comfort, low noise levels and very low rolling resistance (which was undoubtedly influenced by additives, including functional polymers).

Continental EcoContact 6 – more than 150 years of experience paid off

The German manufacturer has been perfecting the tires on offer for over a century and a half, and you can definitely see it when it comes to this year's product. Regardless of tire size, EcoContact 6 ensures safety in all conditions – even after a puncture. The use of Run Flat and ContiSealc technologies, as well as good dry performance, the least abrasion and the best impact on fuel consumption, have made this tire line highly acclaimed by ADAC. Whether you'll be driving primarily in the city or on longer trips, you can feel confident with Continental EcoContact 6 tires.

Nokian Tires Wetproof - wet tire

The Finnish concern made a choice in favor of tires designed for driving on wet surfaces - and I must admit, it turned out great. Exceptionally short braking distances and hydroplaning resistance are just some of the features that set it apart from the competition. This was achieved incl. thanks to a specially profiled asymmetric tread, Responsive Lock technology or reactive lock. Thanks to the addition of aramid fibers, it was possible to guarantee a significantly greater resistance to punctures and damage. Nokian tires are very durable tires that will not fail even under load.

The right choice of summer tires

Rankings published by automotive magazines, organizations or clubs are a valuable source of information. However, they should be supplemented with the opinions of users, which are easily found on the Internet, or the opinions of local mechanics involved in these models. Based on tests conducted by several leading opinion makers, as well as the opinions of the users we meet, we would rank the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 in the top spot of the tires mentioned, followed by the Bridgestone Turanza T005 and the Michelin Primacy 4 in second place. , Hankook Ventus is a decent Prime 4 offering, especially given the value for money.
