They have many advantages and really improve braking performance significantly.

Disc grooves are used to vent any gaseous products generated during braking, creating an invisible cushion between disc and pad. On such discs, you can drive into puddles or mud without much fear. Grooves will remove harmful dirt much faster. These discs are also resistant to surface water vapor condensation that we encounter on cool mornings. They are also not covered with oxide coatings. Another advantage is the ease of determining the wear of such discs, and uneven loss of grooves can indicate play in the suspension.
