The robotic box Lada AMT or VAZ 2182 was first introduced in 2014. First, Priora tried on this transmission, then Kalina, Grant, Vesta, and finally X-ray. The first modification of the robot is known under the index 21826, the updated version is already known as 21827.
This family so far includes only one RKPP.

AvtoVAZ designers had been nurturing the idea of creating their own machine gun for many years, but there was not enough qualification. Therefore, we again decided to turn to foreign specialists.
At first, negotiations were conducted for quite a long time with the well-known Italian company Magneti Marelli, but the proposal received later from the German concern ZF turned out to be much more profitable. As a result, the AvtoVAZ management decided to equip the most modern domestic VAZ 2180 mechanics at the moment with electromechanical actuators from a German company.

The result is a typical robot with an electric drive of a single clutch disc. Such models were popular with European or Japanese manufacturers ten years ago. At the moment, almost all the leading automotive concerns in the world have long abandoned them in favor of an even more modern transmission: preselective robots with two clutches.

Most often, car owners with such a manual transmission complain about delays or jerks when switching. They are especially manifested while driving in city traffic or when starting uphill. Sometimes this robot generally behaves inadequately, it will drop several gears for no reason, or vice versa, it drives for a long time and hard at high engine speeds, not even intending to switch.
The second inconvenience is the lack of a rolling mode, as in a hydromechanical automatic transmission, which is so convenient in traffic jams. When the car is slowly crawling in automatic mode, after releasing the brake pedal, everyone expects to go further, because the gearbox is in gear. But no, you need to press the accelerator. Update: Version 21827 received a rolling mode.
What operating features does the AMT robot have?
The robot has 4 modes of operation, each of them has its own letter designation:
- N — neutral;
- R - reverse gear;
- A - auto mode;
- M - manual mode.
In manual mode, the driver himself shifts gears by swinging the control lever back and forth, the automation takes on only the clutch release. But when it reaches too high a speed to save itself from damage, the box will change gear on its own.
Disadvantages, breakdowns and problems of AMT
The main complaints on the forum are related to the jerky work of the gearbox in the cold and in traffic jams. The reason is usually the wear of the clutch disc, sometimes it happens at low mileage. When replacing, owners prefer to put a thicker disk, for example, from a Chevrolet Niva.
This robot has two electric actuators: clutch and gear shift, and inside them are plastic gears that are far from the longest resource. New actuators are quite expensive and some workshops have mastered their repair.
Also, the boxes of the first years of production were constantly pestered by failures in the electrical part, however, the manufacturer released a number of flashings and now there are fewer complaints. Short-lived oil seals are another weak point, so keep an eye out for grease leaks.
