Oklahoma has laws that limit the amount of noise that can come from the sound systems and muffler of your modified car or truck.

Sound systems

The noise from your sound system cannot disturb neighborhoods, cities, villages, or people by being unusually loud. This can result in a fine of up to $100 and jail time for up to 30 days.

Muffler

  • Silencers are required on all vehicles and should prevent unusual or excessive noise.

  • Muffler shunts, cutouts and amplifying devices are not allowed.

  • Silencers cannot be modified to produce a sound louder than the original factory silencer.

Frame and suspension

  • Off-road lights are permitted, but may not be turned on on the roadway.

Window tinting

  • Non-reflective tinting is allowed on the top five inches or above the manufacturer's AS-1 line, whichever comes first on the windshield.

  • Front, back and rear windows must let in more than 25% of the light.

  • Reflective tinting cannot reflect more than 25% on the front and rear side windows.

  • Side mirrors are required when the rear window is tinted.

Antique/classic car modifications

Oklahoma provides classic license plates for vehicles over 25 years old. An application for a classic vehicle license plate is required. The vehicles cannot be used for everyday driving, but they can be used on the roads to participate in exhibitions, parades and educational activities.
