Self-propelled artillery mount M43
Self-propelled artillery mount M438-inch self-propelled howitzer M43 Just like the M40 SPG, this unit is designed on the chassis of the M4A3E8 medium tank. The layout of the tank has been changed: in the front of the hull there is a control compartment, behind it is a power compartment, and an armored conning tower with a 203,2 mm M1 or M2 howitzer installed in it is mounted in the rear. The horizontal aiming angle of the gun is 36 degrees, the elevation angle is +55 degrees, and the descent angle is -5 degrees. Shooting is carried out with shells weighing 90,7 kg at a distance of 16900 m. The practical rate of fire is one shot per minute. At the rear of the body, a folding opener is mounted, designed to increase stability when firing. The lifting and lowering of the opener is carried out using a manual winch. To protect against air attacks, the units were armed with a 12,7-mm anti-aircraft machine gun. Just like the M40, the M43 was used in the artillery units of the High Command Reserve.
