Self-propelled anti-tank gun "Marder" 38 N and "Marder" 38 MFor more information, see the article “Marder III self-propelled anti-tank gun” After the occupation of Czechoslovakia by Germany in 1939, the production of the TNHP Prague light tank continued at the Skoda factories. This tank, called the P38(r), was widely used by the Wehrmacht. By 1942, the tank was already considered obsolete, but it was decided to use its reliable chassis to create self-propelled artillery installations. This is how, in particular, a series of self-propelled anti-tank guns “Marder” 38 appeared.
On all these self-propelled guns, the guns were located in a lightly armored wheelhouse, open on top and behind. They had approximately the same combat characteristics and were, in essence, a temporary solution necessary to ensure the anti-tank defense of the troops before the Wehrmacht entered service with more advanced means of fighting Soviet tanks.
