The most economical SUVs

SUVs are gaining more and more popularity every year. Not only are we increasingly seeing them on the streets, new car sales statistics show similar results. However, the technology makes it possible to drive a large and heavy vehicle without the heart attack-inducing daily gas station visits. Experts from the American agency Consumer Reports decided to check the fuel appetite of the most popular SUVs.

All-wheel drive vehicles with gasoline engines or hybrid systems were taken into account. The list does not include models with diesel engines, which are gradually becoming obsolete.

Which SUVs were therefore considered the most economical?

1. Toyota RAW4

According to American experts, the most economical SUV is the hybrid Toyota RAV4 with a 2,5-liter gasoline engine. According to tests, on one liter of fuel, the car travels 13,2 km in the combined cycle, 11 km in the city and 15,3 km on the highway. In a more understandable format for us, the average fuel consumption is 7,6 l / 100 km in the combined cycle, 9 l / 100 km in the city and 6,5 l / 100 km on the highway.

RAV4 prices start at PLN 139. However, with the current offer for business customers at this amount, we can get the car not in the basic configuration, but with the Style package, which includes front bi-LED headlights, automatic headlight adjustment, 900-inch alloy wheels, smart key” and power tailgate.

2. Lexus RH 450h

Lexus, a subsidiary of Toyota, ranks second in the ranking. The Japanese, equipped with a 3,5-liter V-shaped six and an electric motor, produces a total power of 323 hp.

On one liter of fuel, the Lexus RX 450h will cover a distance slightly less than the winning Ravka - 12,3 km in the combined cycle, 10,2 km in the city and 14,3 km on the highway. Again, to illustrate this "typical" fuel economy for us, the Lexus will drink 8,1 l/100 km in combined mode, 9,8 l/100 km in the city and 7,1 l/100 km outside the city.

The price list for this model starts from PLN 307. However, the brand has prepared an offer that allows you to buy this model in the top-end Elegance configuration with a discount of 500 rubles. We can become the owner of such a car for 30 zlotys.

3. Lexus NH 300h

Japanese brands dominate the Consumer Reports rankings. Lexus is back in third place. This time it's the NX 300h, with a 2,5-litre petrol engine under the hood.

During the tests, the car drove 12,3 km per liter of gasoline, which is exactly the same as that of her older brother. He managed to overcome the distance of 9,8 km in the city, and 14,5 km on the highway. Average fuel consumption in the combined cycle was 8,1 l/100 km, in the city - 10,2 l/100 km, and in the extra-urban cycle - 6,9 l/100 km.

The price list for the Lexus NX 300h starts at PLN 149 for the basic front-wheel drive version. Since the list only applies to all-wheel drive vehicles, it must be assumed that the cheapest NX 900h with such a drive will cost at least PLN 300.

4. Honda XP-V

Just behind the podium is another Japanese brand. Honda HR-V with a displacement of 1,8 liters and one liter of gasoline came in third with exactly 12,3 km. At the same time, an average fuel consumption in the combined cycle of 8,1 l/100 km was achieved. In the city itself, the average consumption was 11,8 l / 100 km, and on the highway - 6 l / 100 km.

However, there is a small snag - in Poland, the above version of the Honda HR-V package is not available. The offer includes a 1,5-litre petrol engine with 130 hp. We will buy a car with such a drive for PLN 81.

5.Mazda CX-3.

Fifth place is occupied by another Japanese car, but from a completely different stable. We are talking about the Mazda CX-3 with a two-liter gasoline engine producing 146 hp. On one liter of fuel, Mazda will travel 11,6 km in the combined cycle, 8,5 km in the city and 15,3 km outside the city. If we assume consumption in liters for a distance of 100 kilometers, then it will be 8,4 l / 100 km (combined cycle), 11,8 l / 100 km (city) and 6,5 l / 100 km (out of town), respectively.

Mazda CX-5 price list with more powerful 150 hp engine starts from PLN 85. The car fully complies with the requirements of the study - as standard, it has a drive on both axles.

6. Honda CR-V

Sixth place is occupied by the second in the ranking of Honda. The CR-V model was taken into account in two engine options - 2,4 liters and a 1,5-liter turbocharged unit. Interestingly, both engines received similar results - the difference in range per liter of gasoline is less than half a kilometer. The more fuel-efficient 11,9-kilometer unit traveled 8,5 km mixed, 15,7 km city and 8,4 km highway. As a result, the average consumption in mixed mode is 100 l / 11,8 km, in the city - 100 l / 6,4 km, and on the highway - only 100 l / km.

Currently in Poland, the CR-V is available with three engines - a 95 liter petrol engine, which took part in the study, and two diesel options. The advertising price list opens at 900 10 zlotys for a car with a gasoline engine and front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive requires an additional payment of almost PLN 105. The price of such a car is zloty.

7. Mercedes-Benz GLA

The first German car in the ranking appears only in seventh place. Mercedes GLA with a four-cylinder 2.0 turbo engine covered 11 kilometers (combined cycle), 8,1 km in the city and 14,9 km on the highway on one liter of fuel. These results are expressed in an average fuel consumption in the combined cycle of 9 l/100 km, in urban conditions an average of 12,4 l/100 km will be used, and in the case of further exit to the highway - 6,7 l/100 km. .

In addition to the aforementioned unit, Mercedes offers a very wide range of engines for the GLA model. We will pay at least PLN 211 for the base two-liter version with 146 horsepower. However, taking into account all-wheel drive, this amount will increase to at least PLN 100.

8. Subaru Cross Track

Anyone surprised by the next Japanese on the list? This time, the Subaru brand was in the spotlight with the Crosstek model. The version under consideration was equipped with a 148-liter gasoline engine with 11 hp. The distances traveled per liter of fuel are very similar to the aforementioned Mercedes - 8,1 km in mixed mode, 14,5 km in the city and 9 km on the highway. Thus, fuel consumption is very similar to that of the German brother, averaging 100 l/12,4 km in combined mode. In the city, his appetite will increase to 100 l / 6,9 km, and on the highway it will drop to 100 l / km.

Was anyone surprised by the Crosstrek name? And rightly so, because in Poland the car is sold under the code name XV. Prices for this model start from approximately 94 zlotys.

9. Subaru Forester

Subaru Forester with a 2,5-liter gasoline engine also fought for the title of the most economical SUV. The car achieved the same results as the smaller Crosstrek. In mixed mode, both cars traveled the same distance - 11,1 km per liter of fuel. In the city, however, the large dimensions of the Forester are noticeable (he drove 7,7 km), but he compensated for this on the road by driving 14,9 km per liter of gasoline, which is 400 meters more than his younger brother. Average fuel consumption is 9,1 l/100 km combined, 13,1 l in the city and 6,7 l outside.

The Polish Forester price list starts at around PLN 109 (depending on the euro exchange rate). The car is also available with smaller two-liter units.

10. Hyundai Tucson

Hyundai Tucson took tenth place. Consumer Reports decided to test the fuel consumption of a 1,6-liter turbocharged unit with 164 hp. In mixed mode, the Tucson traveled 11,1 km per liter of fuel, 7,7 km in the city, and 14,9 km on the highway. Hence the fuel consumption of 9,1 l/100 km in the combined cycle, 13,1 l/100 km in the city and 6,7 l/100 km outside.

In the Polish market, a 2017 Tucson version with a 177 hp turbocharged engine. costs from PLN 108.

11. BMW H1

Last in the ranking is BMW's smallest SUV, the X1 xDrive28i with a 11-litre turbocharged petrol engine. On one liter of fuel, X-one drove 9,1 km in the combined cycle (which translates into fuel consumption of 100 l / 7,2 km), in the city only 13,8 km (100 l / 15,7 km), but this was compensated by this by driving 6,4 km (reaching an average fuel consumption of 100 l/XNUMX km).

Although the version of the engine studied by the American scientists is not available in Poland, the xDrive 35i is a fairly similar variant that also has a 231 hp two-liter engine. You need to pay at least PLN 186 for such a car.

And all of these are vehicles tested by American Consumer Reports. Summarize:

  • The list includes as many as eight Japanese cars, two German and one Korean.
  • The most expensive model was the Lexus RX 450h, which costs PLN 321 (in the current promotion).
  • The cheapest on the list was the Honda HR-V, for which we would have had to pay PLN 81.
  • The smallest engine on the list is a 1,5-liter unit from a Honda CR-V, while the largest is a 3,5-liter V6 purring under the hood of a Lexus RX 450h.
