The most interesting news in the world of board games, or what is worth playing?

It's been four months of 2020, which is quite a long time in the world of board games. What is new among the publications published in Poland, what is worth paying attention to?

Anna Polkowska / BoardGameGirl.pl

Hello, I'm Anya and I'm a boardwalker. If a new game comes on the market, I have to own it, or at least play it. That's why my morning press doesn't include the latest news from Parliament or the New York Stock Exchange, but news from board publications. I would like to add that over the past four months I have also managed to play some real gems, which I will be happy to tell you about.

New in board games for kids.

  • Zombie Kids: Evolutionthis is a game about which I have to write a separate text. It has been a long time since I had the opportunity to play such a wonderful game for the little ones. This is a cooperative game for two to four people in which we act as schoolchildren protecting him from the invasion of zombies. The game is designed with legacy mode, i.e. it changes with each game - new rules are added, new opponents, special skills appear. In addition, we have a chance to earn various achievements and decorations that the little ones love and give them a lot of motivation and fun to play. It's really hard for me to put into words how good a name this is, so let the numbers speak for themselves. Opening the box, the two girls played sixteen (!) games in a row. If I had a microphone, I would just drop it pointedly on the floor.
  • Another brand new game that made me happy recently is the series Similarity, that is, his three scenes: Tales, Myths and History. Each box is a separate game (although they can be combined with each other), and each is a small miracle card. Similo are games based on associations, during the game one of the players tries to direct the others to the correct card from among the twelve laid out on the table. To do this, he turns over the cards to help guess which cards to discard from the table. The game is beautifully illustrated, fast-paced and already works with two players, which is a rare and valuable mode in association games.
  • And for the smallest, from the age of two, I can recommend with a clear conscience First game: Hume i First game: Animals.. These are simple puzzles, the main task of which is to prepare kids for a game situation. Through this, they learn, for example, that when we play, we sit at the table. What we disassemble the game and put in a box. That the game has its own rules - a set of behaviors that are applied during the game. Of course, the first games themselves already represent their "value on the board" and will be a great first game for a small player or a female player.

New board games for advanced players

  • New wonderful world along with the application War or peace it's a great first step in card games that use the "draft" mechanic, which means you pick one specific card from your hand and pass the rest to the next players. Brave new world beautifully illustrated. Each postcard is a small work of art. The mechanics itself is very beginner-friendly, the rules consist of several pages and are easy to master. If you want to get into drafting, start with this title!
  • Sanctuary this in turn is a rough question. Do you know the computer game "Diablo"? Sanctum is an attempt to bring this experience to the board. And she does it really well, although some say that the ending of the game may not be very pleasing. However, the mechanics themselves are extremely innovative. During the game, you will defeat various monsters, develop a skill tree and equip your character. It's great to see how we're progressing with each game as we prepare to face the final 'boss'. But remember, Sanctum is a game for real players - if you feel like it, you'll have to face a pretty decent part of the game!

Escape Room Mystery of the Sphinx is the latest installment in a line of small hour-long room escape games. All titles are issued in small boxes, contain a short, hidden story, written on a special deck of cards. I haven't been disappointed with any of the games in this series yet and can recommend it in good conscience to anyone who wants to mix things up a bit. Of course, these are small and not very complex games that cannot compete with such famous genres as Escape stories, but they will definitely give you at least an hour of great pleasure.

If you know of any interesting news this year, be sure to write about them in the comments - let me find out something interesting! You can also find interesting texts about board games in our Gram Passion.
