Most car enthusiasts can agree that big rear fenders are cool. While nasty secondary wings that serve no purpose aren't to everyone's taste, a nifty aerodynamic rear spoiler can give a car a more aggressive look.

Some of the fenders in this line are designed to generate maximum downforce, others are purely for display purposes and may even detract from the vehicle's aerodynamic performance. Take a look at the craziest rear spoilers and fenders in the automotive industry.

Apollo Strong emotions

The Intensa Emozione is a hardcore hypercar designed by Apollo Automobil, an automaker founded by Roland Gumpert in 2004. Back in the mid-2000s, Roland Gumpert released the high-performance Gumpert Apollo supercar, which was one of the fastest cars at the time. More than a decade later, the automaker is back with an exciting new creation.

The Intensa Emozione is powered by a 6.3-liter V12 engine with a maximum output of 770 horsepower. The cost of IE in the US is a whopping $2.7 million. Only 10 units will be produced in total, and all of them have already been sold.

Zenvo TCP-S

The Zenvo TSR-S is the road variant of the Zenvo TSR race car. The supercar is equipped with a huge 5.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces almost 1200 horsepower! In fact, the TSR-S can hit 124 mph in less than 7 seconds!

The redesigned TSR-S features a massive carbon fiber rear spoiler mounted at the rear of the vehicle. The wing can be freely adjusted to improve cornering stability and air braking as well as overall downforce. The massive TSR-S wing is one of the most advanced rear spoilers in the industry.

McLaren Senna

The Senna is McLaren's third addition to the Ultimate series, alongside the McLaren P1 and the legendary F1 of the 1990s. Despite being part of the same series, Senna is not a successor to any of them. The hypercar is powered by a boosted version of the 4.0-liter V8 engine found in the McLaren 720S.

Senna is easily distinguished by its massive hindwing. Like so much of car design, it's not just for show. The adjustable wing improves aerodynamics and serves as an air brake.

McLaren P1

The McLaren P1 is without a doubt one of the most beautiful hypercars ever made. Designer Frank Stevenson admitted that the P1 was partly inspired by a sailboat he saw on vacation in Miami. The unique style of the hypercar, combined with exceptional performance and limited edition, make this hypercar highly sought after by wealthy car collectors. McLaren reportedly produced only 375 P1 units.

At the rear, the P1 is equipped with an adjustable spoiler made using Formula One technology. The rear wing generates more than 1 pounds of downforce at 1300 mph, according to the automaker.

Koenigsegg Jesco

Koenigsegg is a relatively new name in the automotive world. In fact, the first car built by the Swedish automaker was the CC8S hypercar. It was introduced back in 2002 and since then the manufacturer has been producing some of the world's best performance vehicles.

Jesko debuted at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show as the successor to the Agera RS. The car's name is a tribute to the founder's father, Jesko von Koenigsegg. During Jesko's presentation, founder Koenigsegg announced that their new hypercar was the first car in the world to break 300 mph. The huge rear wing of the car is unlikely to go unnoticed.

Koenigsegg Agera Final Edition

Koenigsegg's flagship model, the Koenigsegg Agera, was produced until 2018. To celebrate the end of production of the high-performance machine, the Swedish automaker has unveiled an incredibly exclusive Final Edition. Its production run was strictly limited to just two units, which were the last two Ageras ever built.

2 Ageras FE were named Thor and Vader (pictured above). Both cars share wings with the Agera RS, a boosted variant of Koenigsegg's flagship model. In addition to increasing downforce at high speeds, the Agera FE spoiler looks quite extravagant.

Koenigsegg Reger

The Regera is Koenigsegg's first plug-in hybrid vehicle. The two-door hypercar has been produced since 2016 and has earned the title of one of the most high-tech cars of all time. In total, Koenigsegg plans to build just 80 Regeras, and all of them have already been sold.

Beneath the aerodynamic body is a 5.0-liter V8 paired with electric motors that are primarily designed to increase power at low speeds. In total Regera produces almost 1800 horsepower! Some of the notable features of the car include an innovative single speed gearbox. The hydraulically actuated rear wing is hard to miss and was designed to increase the car's downforce. According to Koenigsegg, the Regera develops 990 pounds of downforce at 155 mph.

Lamborghini Veneno

Many automotive enthusiasts consider Lamborghini to be the absolute leader in high-performance supercars. After all, the Italian automaker invented the supercar back in the 1960s when the Miura was introduced. Since then, Lamborghini has had a long history of building some of the world's finest supercars.

The Veneno is one of the most expensive new cars in the world and also one of the most extravagant cars ever. It debuted in 2013 with a starting price of around $4 million. In total, Lamborghini limited production to just 14 units, and they all sold out almost instantly.

Lamborghini Aventador SVZh

The Aventador Super Veloce Jota, SVJ for short, is a hardcore, track-focused take on the already insane Lamborghini Aventador S. and 6 seconds.

The Aventador SVJ is Lamborghini's first supercar with a V12 engine and the innovative ALA aerodynamic system. According to the automaker, the ALA allows the SVJ to develop 40% more downforce than the standard Lamborghini Aventador SV. As you might guess, the huge rear wing contributes to the car's aerodynamic performance.

Pagani Zonda 760 Oliver Evolution

This particular car is not a standard stock car. Only one unit of the Zonda 760 Oliver Evolution was made. The extravagant Italian supercar is based on the Pagani Zonda 760 RS, another one of a kind. The Zonda 760 Oliver Evolution is powered by a 750 horsepower 7.3-litre V12 engine built by Mercedes-Benz.

This unique car can be easily distinguished from any other Pagani Zonda by its large rear wing. The spoiler has been developed by the motorsport leader GT to achieve maximum downforce. Even though it plays a role in the car's aerodynamics, this rear spoiler looks downright crazy.

Pagani Huayra BC

Huayra BC, named after friend Horacio Pagani (founder of Pagani Automobili), is a track-focused variant of the standard Huayra hypercar. Pagani retained the base model's 6.0-liter V12 engine, although it was modified to increase power to 745 horsepower. The Pagani team also reduced the car's weight by nearly 300 pounds using a material called carbon triaxial instead of conventional carbon fiber.

Of course, aerodynamics are key to the performance of the Huayra BC, and the car's huge rear wing helps reduce drag and increase downforce. In total, Pagani built only 20 hardcore Huayra BCs.

Dodge Viper ACR

The latest, fifth generation Viper was released in the 2013 model year. A year later, the American automaker introduced the concept of a track-oriented, uprated version of the ACR Viper based on the latest platform. Finally, the Viper ACR was introduced for the 2016 model year.

The hardcore Viper ACR variant can be easily identified by its unique carbon fiber aero package, in particular the front splitter and huge rear spoiler. The optional Extreme Aero package for the ACR replaced the wing with an even larger one. A Viper ACR equipped with this package generates up to 2000 pounds of downforce in corners!

Chevrolet Corvette C7 ZR1 (ZTK Package)

The seventh generation ZR1 Corvette variant debuted for the 2019 model year. The advanced sports car is based on the Corvette Z06 but powered by an all-new supercharged LT5 V8 engine. The power plant of the car reaches a whopping 755 horsepower, which allows the ZR1 to reach speeds of 214 miles per hour.

The ZR1's aerodynamic package has been designed in wind tunnels to perform as efficiently as possible. The optional ZTK Performance Package adds a massive carbon fiber rear wing attached to the rear of the car. Thanks to the rear wing, the ZR1 with ZTK generates 60% more downforce than the standard ZR1.

Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

The ZL1 is the highest variant of the sixth generation Chevrolet Camaro. The two-door muscle car is powered by the same engine as the seventh generation Corvette Z2, a 06-horsepower supercharged LT650 V4. What's more, the 8 ZL2017 is one of the first production vehicles to feature an automatic 1-speed transmission. A manual variant was also available with a six-speed shifter.

A year after the debut of the ZL1, Chevrolet introduced an optional LE package for the car. The LE package improved the car's aerodynamics and added an all-new racing-inspired suspension system. The Camaro ZL1 is one of the fastest cars Chevrolet has ever made, and one of the fastest modern American cars in general.

Porsche 911 991.1 GT3

Based on the 3st generation of the iconic 991, the road variant of the pre-facelift Porsche GT911 race car was first unveiled in Geneva in 2013. The car is equipped with a 3.8-liter boxer Porsche engine with up to 475 horsepower. The power plant can spin up to 9000 rpm! The GT3 engine is paired with a dual clutch transmission for quick and smooth gear changes.

The GT3 is easily distinguished from the base model by many aerodynamic features, especially the large rear wing. According to the German automaker, the 991.1 GT3 can hit 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. The car passed the infamous Nordschleife loop at the Nürburgring in just 7 minutes 25 seconds.

Porsche RS 911 GT991.1

Porsche didn't stop with the 991.1 GT3. Instead, just two years later, the German manufacturer released a boosted variant of the Renn Sport, or RS for short. The 3.8-liter boxer has given way to a new 4.0-liter flat-six with 490 horsepower.

Some of the features introduced for the 991.1 GT3 RS include an all-new rear wing (even bigger than the GT3!), a magnesium roof, an optional roll cage, full bucket seats inspired by the Porsche 918 hypercar, or aggressive fender vents. The GT3 RS completed the Nordschleife 5 seconds faster than the regular GT3.

Believe it or not, Porsche isn't done with hardcore 991 variants yet!

Porsche RS 911 GT991

For the first time, Porsche didn't release a standard GT2 variant and instead jumped right into the hardcore GT2 RS. Like all previous GT2 models, the 991 GT2 RS is equipped with a turbocharged powertrain. The car is powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine that pumps out a whopping 691 horsepower.

The appearance of the GT2 RS is similar to the previously mentioned GT3 RS, based on the same generation of 911, 991. The car also has a magnesium roof or a massive carbon fiber rear wing. The GT2 RS set a world record at the Nürburgring in 2017 with a time of 6 minutes 47 seconds. He was later dethroned by the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ.

Bentley Continental GT3-R

The GT3-R variant of the Bentley Continental is heavily inspired by the car's racing counterpart, the Continental GT3. The powerful GT3-R is road legal and is also 220 pounds lighter than the regular Continental. The car's V8 powerplant has been modified to deliver over 570 horsepower. A total of 300 GT3-Rs were built.

GT3-R is all about performance. Hence the unique aerodynamic features of the car, such as the carbon fiber rear wing or the carbon fiber air intakes on the hood. The GT3-R can hit 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds!

McLaren Speedtail

This unique hypercar is McLaren's latest addition to the Ultimate Series. This hybrid is equipped with a modified version of the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine used in the McLaren 720S, as well as an electric motor with 310 horsepower. The total power output is rated at a whopping 1036 horsepower!

Like every other McLaren, the Speedtail has been designed with maximum performance and aerodynamics in mind. The rear of the vehicle is equipped with two active ailerons that open when needed. Although this solution is not exactly a rear spoiler, it is worth mentioning the innovative aerodynamic solution.

McLaren 720S

The 720S is the second car to feature in the McLaren Super Series and is the direct successor to the 650S. The two-door supercar was unveiled in Geneva in 2017 and is still in production today.

Since the 720S is all about performance, the McLaren engineering team installed a large active wing at the rear of the car. The 710-horsepower supercar generates 50% more downforce than its predecessor. According to Robert Melville, who designed the 720S, the stylish exterior design was inspired by the great white shark.

Bugatti Divo

The Bugatti Divo is one of the most sophisticated modern cars in the world. The prestigious automaker has announced that it will build just 40 units of the car, all of which are reportedly already sold out. The car's name pays homage to Albert Divo, a successful Bugatti racer in the 1920s.

While the front of the Divo is somewhat reminiscent of the Chiron hypercar, the design of the rear is a completely different game. A massive spoiler mounted on the back of the hypercar completes its powerful aggressive look. Divo is even faster than it looks, the car can reach speeds of up to 236 miles per hour!

Lamborghini Huracan Performant

The Performante is the high-performance track version of the Lamborghini Huracan. It was introduced in 2017 and was the first vehicle from the automaker to be equipped with the innovative ALA aerodynamic system. At the presentation of the car in Geneva, Lamborghini announced that the car had broken the Nurburgring record by driving the Nordschleife in 6 minutes 52 seconds.
