Particulate filters

Since May 2000, the PSA Group has produced and sold 500 vehicles equipped with HDi diesel particulate filters.

The first model with such a filter was the 607 with a 2.2-liter diesel.

Thanks to the use of a diesel particulate filter, it was possible to achieve particulate emissions close to zero. These measures allowed to reduce fuel consumption, as well as significantly reduce emissions of harmful CO02, well below current standards.

The filters used in the Peugeot 607, 406, 307 and 807, as well as the Citroen C5 and C8, required service after 80 km. Continuous improvement work has made it possible to extend this period, so that since the end of last year the filter has been checked every 120 km. In 2004, the group announces another solution, this time disguised as "octo-square", which will further improve the cleanliness of diesel exhaust gases. Then a completely new filter with a different exhaust gas filter composition will be put into production. The product announced for next season will be maintenance-free and its impact must be felt in the environment.

The widespread adoption of the diesel particulate filter system will allow the diesel engine to gain market share while enhancing its unique role in reducing the greenhouse effect, a constant concern of the PSA Group.

Currently, cars from 6 families of the Peugeot and Citroen range are sold with a particulate filter. In two years there will be 2 of them, and the total output of cars equipped in this way will reach a million units.
