Service interval reset
Content
The service interval is the period of time between vehicle maintenance. That is, between changing oil, fluids (brake, cooling, power steering) and so on. At the official service stations, after these works, the specialists reset the counter themselves.
There is nothing wrong with the fact that the "service" caught fire, in principle, no. Essentially, it is reminder to replace consumables... Often such maintenance is done independently, without involving the services of service centers. But after the maintenance procedure itself is completed, the question remains, how to reset the service interval?
The service interval is reset by manipulating the dashboard, battery terminals and the ignition switch. Depending on the make and model of the car, these manipulations may vary. usually, the procedure is reduced to the following sequence.
How to reset the service interval yourself
If there was a single step-by-step instruction for resetting the service interval for all vehicles, it would look something like this:
- Switch off the ignition.
- Press the corresponding button.
- Switch on ignition.
- Hold / press the button.
- Wait until the interval is reset.
This is the general procedure, it does not give specifics. in order to find out exactly what needs to be produced on a particular car, you can search for it in the list below.
Illustration for the VAG-COM program
Service interval reset with VAG-COM
There are special devices for diagnosing cars manufactured by the German concern VAG. namely, the VW AUDI SEAT SKODA diagnostic adapter with CAN bus called VAG COM is popular. It can be used to perform various diagnostic operations, including use to reset the service interval.
The adapter connects to the laptop via the supplied cable. The software may differ depending on the hardware version. Older versions have been partially Russified. The Russian-language version of the program is called "Vasya Diagnost". Work with the device must be performed according to the available instructions, however, an approximate algorithm will be as follows:
- Connect the adapter with a lanyard to your computer or laptop. Install the bundled software.
- Connect the adapter to the car. For this, the latter has a special socket where diagnostic equipment is connected. usually, it is located somewhere under the front panel or steering column.
- Turn on the ignition or start the engine.
- Run the appropriate VCDS software on the computer, then go to its "Settings" menu and select the "Test" button. If everything is fine, then you will see a window with information that the connection between the car's ECU and the adapter is in place.
- further diagnostics are carried out in accordance with the needs of the driver and the capabilities of the program. You can read more about them in the attached instructions.
then we will give an algorithm for resetting the service interval using the example of a Volkswagen Golf car manufactured in 2001 and later. To do this, you need to go into the adaptation mode of the dashboard, and change the values of the corresponding channels. In this case, we are talking about channels from 40 to 45. The sequence of their changes will be as follows: 45 - 42 - 43 - 44 - 40 - 41. It may also be necessary to correct channels 46, 47 and 48 if Longlife is involved. The connection and launch of the program was described above, therefore, further we present for you the algorithm of nominal work with the software.
- We go to the "Select control unit".
- We select the controller "17 - Instrument cluster".
- We go to the block "10 - Adaptation".
- Select channel 45 "Oil grade" and set the desired value. Click "Test" then "Save" (although you can not click the "Test" button).
- Enter the value 1 - if it is a regular oil without LongLife.
- Enter the value 2 - if LongLife gasoline engine oil is used.
- Enter the value 4 - if LongLife diesel engine oil is used.
- then select the channel - 42 "Minimum mileage to service (TO)" and set the desired value. Click "Test" then "Save".
- The step with which the distance is set is: 00001 = 1000 km (that is, 00010 = 10000 km). For ICE with LongLife, you need to set the mileage to 15000 km. If there is no Longlife, then it is better to set 10000 km.
- then select the channel - 43 "Maximum mileage to service (TO)" and set the desired value. Click "Test" then "Save".
- The step with which the distance is set is: 00001 = 1000 km (that is, 00010 = 10000 km).
- For ICE with LongLife: 30000 km for gasoline ICEs, 50000 km for 4-cylinder diesel engines, 35000 km for 6-cylinder diesel engines.
- For ICE without LongLife, you need to set the same value that you set in the previous channel 42 (in our case it is 10000 km).
- We select the channel - 44 "Maximum time to service (TO)" and set the desired value. Click "Test" then "Save".
- The setting step is: 00001 = 1 day (that is, 00365 = 365 days).
- For ICE with LongLife, the value should be 2 years (730 days). And for ICE without LongLife - 1 year (365 days).
- Channel - 40 "Mileage after service (TO)". If, for example, you have done MOT, and the counter has not been reset. You can specify how many kilometers you traveled after maintenance. We set the desired value. Click "Test" then "Save".
- The step is 1 = 100 km.
- Channel - 41 "Time after service (TO)". The same is true only in days. The step is 1 = 1 day.
- Channel - 46. Only for gasoline engines! General expense. The value is used to calculate the longlife interval. Default value: 00936.
- Channel - 47. For diesel engines only! The amount of soot in the oil per 100 km. The value is used to calculate the LongLife interval. Standard value: 00400.
- Channel - 48. Only for diesels! Temperature load of the internal combustion engine. The value is used to calculate the LongLife interval. Default value: 00500.
We remind you that you will find detailed information on working with the program in the manual.
