Schaeffler sells Bio Hybrid, its electric four-wheeler concept

Schaeffler sold all shares of its subsidiary Schaeffler Bio-Hybrid to the Berlin company Micromobility Services and Solutions. The start of mass production of the Bio-Hybrid four-wheeled electric bike is scheduled for mid-2021 under the leadership of the new owner.

Very soon the word "Schaeffler" will disappear from the name of its subsidiary and will become soberly bio-hybrid. The brand's visual identity will remain unchanged. Although she now operates outside of the Schaeffler Group, Gerald Wallnhals will retain his position as Managing Director.

Schaeffler Bio-Hybrid was founded in 2017 to develop a four-wheel electric system called Bio-Hybrid. In 2016, a prototype was presented, demonstrating a modern vision of individual movement in urban areas. Bio-Hybrid combines the advantages of a bicycle with transport volume and weather protection like a small car. The car is propelled by a combination of muscle power and an electric motor that reaches speeds of up to 25 km / h and can be used on cycle paths without a driver's license.

The bio-hybrid has been extensively tested in recent months. It was originally planned for serial production at the end of 2020, but its release to the market has been delayed by six months. However, pre-booking must be open from this year. The four-wheel vehicle has a roof and open side windshield and will be available in several versions: with a passenger seat, a 1-liter body or a pickup with an open loading bay. The modular design of the cargo version also allows the use of special devices, for example in a café bar or refrigerated truck.
