Seat Leon Cupra 290 2.0 TSI Start / Stop

It was dusk, so when we met he probably overlooked the high-performance 19-inch Pirelli 235/35 tires, two tailpipe ends, a 290 mark at the rear, and red brake discs with Cupra lettering. I still kind of understand this, but I can't figure out that he sat down on the well-contoured seats and stared at the LED lighting (front also with automatic high beam switching, rear and even above the license). plate), while believing mine explains that we are riding with a purely ordinary Leon.

Apparently, the twilight was also to blame for the fact that I did not see my mischievous smile when I indulged in it, while he was probably already drinking his thoughts in the evening. I said he wasn't interested in cars at all, was he? After finally realizing that my joke would not be bread, I still wondered if he liked the car. “It rides very nicely, mostly quite comfortably. I wish it had five doors too, as it's much more useful in everyday life,” he grumbled, and I grew more and more desperate that the fastest Seat in the world hadn't made such an impression on me. because I know by heart the technical data of all these hot semi-racers. Of course there was a lesson. It didn't take long, just to push the accelerator pedal in second gear when the engine at 4.000 rpm comes out of idle crazy.

I think it was a big shock for my colleague, since he immediately attributed to him home processing (tuning) and at least 500 “horses”. “He doesn’t have much, in fact he doesn’t have 300 more,” I was finally pleased with his attention. After we already sat in Old Ljubljana with cold juice in hand (you think there was no beer, right?), we processed the competitors: from the retired Honda Civic Type-R and Renault Megane RS to the loud VW Golf GTi, from Ford Focus ST to Peugeot 308 GTi and Opel Astra OPC. In fact, it became quite crowded between these hot buns. The Seat Leon Cupra competes well with everyone, mainly due to the powerful engine (compared to the Golf GTi with which it shares technology), a good manual transmission (is DSG better?) and a partial differential lock for better traction.

My friend is not afraid of speeding, but he still rolled his eyes when I pressed the gas pedal all the way. Only then did he see that the dial on the speedometer reached 300, that the steering wheel was sporty and cut from the bottom, that it had some aluminum accessories (front sills and pedals), and that we drove first in the Comfort program and then in the Cupra program. (also called "uaauuuu" in Slovenian). Jokes aside, in addition to these two driving programs, you can also choose Sport and Individual, where you customize the vehicle settings to suit your wants and needs, and they all do their job well.

The infotainment interface is great again, the auto-switch between low and high beams is top notch (thanks also to the standard LED headlights), the smart cruise control is worth the money (€ 516 extra) and the Isofix mounts are really useful, not a nightmare as with some competitors. Maybe I'll make the Seat Leon Cupra unfair, because I'll write that it indulges more in comfort (for such a powerful car with a sports chassis, to be clear) than racing inserts. For the racetrack, a Megane, Civic or Focus are better suited. But the fact that he can be an ordinary sheep or an occasional wolf is his greatest virtue. And it's beautiful, isn't it? Only the price with accessories is already dangerously close to the Ford Focus RS.
