Segway launches its low-cost electric scooter in the USA

The first Segway electric scooter, unveiled earlier this year at CES in Las Vegas, is now available in the North American market.

Segway, formerly known for its personal vehicles, has continued to expand its range of electric vehicles in recent years. After launching a number of electric scooters in partnership with Ninebot, the American company, which now flies the Chinese flag, has just opened pre-orders for its very first electric scooter in the North American market.

Reminiscent of the features of the Niu U series, the Segway C80 is a car mainly designed for urban use. This small, license-free electric scooter is equipped with pedals that allow the user to maintain the 750-watt electric motor in the event of a heavy load. The top speed is limited to 32 km/h. A configuration that allows it to be categorized as an electric bike in the US market, where it can legally walk on bike lanes.

A lithium-ion battery with a total energy capacity of 1152 Wh is housed under the seat. Detachable, it promises up to 85 kilometers of battery life with a full tank.

The minimalistic Segway C80 isn't devoid of features. Including GPS tracking and anti-theft protection, it works without a key. It can be activated using an NFC card or through a simple mobile application that can be installed on your smartphone.

The Segway C80 will begin shipping in Canada and the United States in November. It is offered at a promotional price of $ 1899 (€ 1600) during the pre-order period. Then its price will drop to $ 2199, or approximately € 1870. There are currently no plans to market it in Europe.
