Ford Ranger Raptor's Secret Weapon! Why you're better off buying a super ute in Australia than anywhere else on the planet!

Australian Ford Ranger Raptors have an ace up their sleeve.

The power lust of Australian ute fans was rewarded handsomely by Ford when the new Ranger Raptor became more powerful in Australia than almost anywhere else.

The good news for local Raptor buyers is that the amazing power output of the new ute is not world standard. In fact, in some markers, the ute is actually less powerful - in terms of torque - than the model it replaces.

While Ford has yet to officially confirm a 100 mph time, Cars Guide understands that the number must be less than 5.5 seconds, which makes it not just fast for ute, but also a fast period.

These car performance numbers come from a new 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine (which will also appear in the Ford Bronco Raptor), which in our market will deliver 292kW and 583Nm on 98 octane fuel.

These are big numbers, and our European cousins will look at them with envy. For example, in markets like the UK, the Raptor gets the same engine but with a less impressive 288bhp. (or about 212 kW) and 491 Nm. And yes, that means the new petrol-powered Raptor makes less torque in those markets than the outgoing model.

Then score one for the Aussies.

But even compared to markets that get the same engine setup as us, like the US, Raptors shipped to Australia should be faster.

Our very own Byron Mathiodakis attended the Ford Ranger Raptor briefing and understands our vehicles will have an advantage over their US counterparts in terms of pure acceleration thanks to our specially tuned 10R60 torque converter 10-speed automatic. transmission, smaller tires, lighter weight and lower center of gravity.

So if you're looking for a Ranger Raptor, be grateful you're buying it from Australia.
