Porsche Taycan 4S series - Nyland test [video]

Bjorni Nyuland tested the range of the Porsche Taycan 4S with a 71 kWh battery (total: 79,2 kWh). The car was tested in Range mode, so it drove with a lowered suspension, front-wheel drive and limited power. Initially, the meters of the car indicated the ability to drive 392 kilometers, it was possible to drive 427 kilometers after the battery was discharged to 3 percent.

Real range of Porsche Taycan 4S

During the test, driving in good conditions (good weather, 11-12 degrees Celsius), Nyland managed to reduce power consumption to 18,5 kWh / 100 km (185 Wh / km). And then he threw away curiosity: here the Tesla Model S will reach 15 kWh / 100 km, and the Tesla Model 3 will drop to 13 kWh / 100 km. Thus, Tesla cars will be more fuel efficient by 23 and 42 percent, respectively.

Finally, it reached 17,3 kWh / 100 km (173 Wh / km).... With a battery discharged to 3 percent, it was possible to overcome 427 kilometers (in 5:01 h, on average: 85 km / h), which gives:

  • 440 km of total mileage with battery discharged to zero,
  • The range is 310 km using the battery in the range of 10-80 percent.

In addition, Nyland also ran a highway driving test and got the following results:

  • Cruising range 341 km at a speed of 120 km / h on the highway,
  • The range is 240 km at a highway speed of 120 km / h and the battery used is in the range of 10-80 percent.

> The Norwegian went on an electric Porsche tour of Europe. Now he dissuades. If we don't have Tesla

Based on calculations based on energy consumption, Nyland calculated that 76 kWh batteries are available to the user... This is much more than Porsche claims (71 kWh), but the value is in line with the manufacturer's strategy. In another test of the Performance Plus battery model, it was found that the Taycan can use almost 90 kWh of battery, although it should have a usable capacity of 83,7 kWh.

Let's add that the capacity was calculated at a battery temperature of 30 degrees Celsius, and a higher temperature means a higher cell capacity. Nyland also noted that when disconnected from the charging station, the vehicle did not allow regenerative braking to be used, further indicating that the battery's available capacity was being used.
