Battery Certificate: Used by iMiev, C-Zéro and iOn

What we call the "troika" stands for the trio of electric mini city cars. Peugeot iOn, Citroen C-Zero et Mitsubishi iMiev... In this article, discover the battery certificate created by La Belle Batterie for these early EVs and rest assured the next purchase (or next sale) of your used iOn (or C-Zéro, or iMiev!)

The first "Triplet"

Cars "cousins"

Launched 10 years ago, triplet is the result of a partnership between Mitsubishi and the PSA group. The iMiev was produced in 2009, followed by two European versions at PSA, Peugeot Ion and Citroën C-Zero. These are the first EVs from every manufacturer and are very similar in many ways.

The three vehicles are equipped with a 47 kW engine and a 16 kWh battery for the first generations, which are then replaced with 14,5 kWh batteries for the first generations. IOn and C-Zero models as of April 2012. Their declared autonomy is 130 km, but their real autonomy ranges from 100 to 120 km. Their appearance is also almost identical: the same dimensions, 5 doors, and an atypical rounded design inspired by "Wheelbarrow", small Japanese cars.

We find the same equipment in each of the machines, specifically air conditioning, Bluetooth, USB ... the triplets were very well equipped at the time of their release.

Finally, the iMiev, iOn and C-Zero are charged in the same way: normal charging socket, fast charging socket (CHAdeMO) and charging cable for connecting to a household socket.

These cars are still sold in France today, but they have a hard time keeping up with the competition. This is mainly due to their rather low range compared to other EVs on the market, a battery of only 16 kWh or even 14,5 kWh for most models in circulation), and heating and air conditioning, which consume a lot of energy. energy.

However, we find the top three in the used car market and in particular the Peugeot iOn, whose production has stopped since the beginning of 2020.

Electric cars for the city

Although the triple has a range of about a hundred kilometers, these electric cars are ideal for city trips. Their small size makes it easy for motorists to move around the city and park. Indeed, Peugeot iOn, Citroën C-Zero and Mitsubishi iMiev are urban mini-cars, smaller than, for example, Renault Zoe, with compact dimensions: 3,48 m long and 1,47 m wide.

In addition, the triplet is equipped with a fast charge function, which allows you to maximize its autonomy in record time: you can charge 80% of the battery in 30 minutes.

Batteries that can age quickly, battery certification as a solution.

iMiev used by C-zero or iOn: pay attention to battery condition

Research by Geotab shows that electric vehicle batteries lose an average of 2,3% of their capacity and mileage per year. We've written a complete article on battery life that we invite you to read. here.

This is obviously an average, as battery aging depends on many factors: vehicle storage conditions, repeated use of quick charging, extreme temperatures, driving style, type of trip, etc.

The electric vehicle model and manufacturer may also explain some of the differences in battery life. This is the case with triplets, where power losses can be much greater than other electric vehicles. In fact, Peugeot iOn, Citroën C-Zero and Mitsubishi iMiev lose an average of 3,8% SoH (State of Health) per year.... This is much more than, for example, the Renault Zoe, which loses an average of 1,9% SoH per year.

Battery Certificate for Resale Validation

As the capacities of the Peugeot iOn, Citroën C-Zero and Mitsubishi iMiev decrease dramatically over time, it is very important to check the condition of their batteries.
