According to the nationwide poll "Do Poles change tires" conducted by the research agency SW Research at the request of Oponeo.pl, almost 8 out of 10 buyers decide to buy new tires, and only 11,5% - used tires. When choosing, we usually focus on price (49,8%) or brand and model (34,7%).

We buy new tires, but pay attention to their price

More than three-quarters of Poles (78,6%) buy new tires for their car, only 11,5% choose used tires, and 8,5% otherwise, sometimes like this, sometimes like that - according to the nationwide survey "Do Poles change tires”, conducted by SW Research for Oponeo.pl. At the same time, the most important criterion that we take into account when choosing a tire is its price, which is the first thing that 49,8% of respondents pay attention to. Most often, we buy new tires for a car in a car service or from a vulcanizer (45,2%), as well as on the Internet (41,8%). Ordinary shops or wholesalers are chosen by 18,7% of Poles.

What else influences our buying decisions?

For 34,7% of Polish drivers, the brand and model are important, every fourth of them (25,3%), when buying, focuses on tire parameters (for example, rolling resistance, volume), and every fifth (20,8%) - on the date of production . Recommendations are also important for every fifth person - 22,3% of respondents take into account the opinions and opinions of other drivers before buying new tires, 22% use the help of a seller, and 18,4% follow ratings, tests and expert opinions. At the same time, 13,8% of respondents analyze all of the above parameters and, on this basis, choose the best tires for themselves.

What tires are most often bought by Poles?

What tires do Poles choose?According to Oponeo.pl data, in the first half of 2021, we used economy tires most often, which accounted for 41,7% of all tires sold during this period by the tire service, followed by premium tires. class tires - 32,8%, and the third middle class - 25,5%. Considering all of 2020, economy tires (39%) also had the largest share of sales, followed by premium tires (32%) and mid-range tires (29%). While economy tires have been the most common choice for several years, we are also seeing growing interest in premium tires, with sales up almost 2020% in 7 compared to 2019. Most often, we buy tires in the size 205/55R16, which for more than 3 years have been in first place in terms of the number of pieces sold by the service.

– When we decide to change the tires on our car, we begin to study the market. We check opinions on this model, view tests, ratings and specifications. And yet for half of the buyers the main factor when buying tires is their price. We prefer economy tires. It is important to note that over the years it has been seen that we are more and more consciously choosing new tires. We discard used ones knowing that buying them can be risky. Just 5 years ago, 3 out of 10 Poles decided to buy used tires, today - only every tenth. Tires have a huge impact on driving safety, so it is definitely worth taking some time to choose the ones that will be the most suitable for us, i.e. adapted both to our needs and to the type of our car, says Michal Pawlak, Oponeo.pl expert.

All year round, summer or winter?

The study “Do Poles Change Tires” showed that 83,5% of Polish drivers change tires seasonally from summer to winter and from winter to summer. This is confirmed by Oponeo data, which shows that 81,1% of all tires sold in 2020 were summer tires (45,1%) and winter tires (36%), and almost one in five tires sold were all-season tires (18,9% ). .
