There are many safety systems designed to prevent accidents. Front Assist technology with predictive pedestrian protection and city emergency braking is standard in the EU. The optional Travel Assist includes several assistance systems, some of which are also available separately. There are two Travel Assist options to choose from, both of which include predictive cruise control. It uses images from the windshield camera and navigation system data and responds to speed limits or turns in a timely manner when needed. In combination with the DSG transmission, the Stop & Go cruise control function can automatically stop the car and automatically restart it within three seconds. Travel Assist also includes a more accurate version of traffic sign recognition (thanks to an improved camera), Adaptive Lane Assist (can recognize road works and all road markings), Traffic Jam Assist, and Emergency Assist.

The updated version of Travel Assist also includes Side Assist (warns the driver of approaching vehicles up to 70m away) with Rear Traffic Alert and Parking Assist. Using the Hands-on Detect function, the system also checks every 15 seconds whether the driver is touching the steering wheel. Otherwise, Emergency Assist turns on the hazard lights and stops the car in the current lane. For more comfortable parking, the integrated maneuvering assistance system detects obstacles in front of and behind the car and brakes automatically if necessary. Optionally, the Area View system will provide the driver with a 360° view, and Trailer Assist will help when parking in the rear with a trailer.
