The fine for using xenon headlights has been abolished. But, it is canceled only for those drivers whose cars have xenon lamps installed in accordance with all the rules and do not pose a danger to other road users.

If you decide to use xenon or bi-xenon lights as head optics, then experts advise you to think carefully before deciding to replace it. Why? Some facts can be cited:

  • xenon really illuminates the road better than halogen, but the strength of the luminous flux and good visibility are two different things;
  • so that xenon lamps do not blind oncoming drivers and illuminate the road well, they must be installed in a suitable housing of the headlight itself, and since most drivers simply put xenon lamps instead of halogen lamps, the adjustment must be made by specialists;
  • if xenon bulbs do not fit your head optics, then the beam of light lies not far from the hood of the car, and you need to select reflectors that would correctly direct the rays.

Although the SDA does not provide for fines for the use of xenon, there are other articles under which you can be fined for incorrectly installed xenon:

  • if the installation of xenon lamps is not provided for by the design of the head optics, then the driver, in accordance with Article 12.4 Part 1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, will face a fine of 3000 rubles and confiscation of the lamps, and a more severe punishment is also provided in the form of a ban on further operation of the car and removal of license plates;
  • list of faults - paragraph 3.4 - installation of lighting devices that do not correspond to the design of the vehicle.

Therefore, if you are stopped on the road with incorrectly installed and unadjusted xenon lamps without reflectors, the traffic police inspector may have a reasonable question - how did you manage to pass the inspection.

Based on the foregoing, one simple conclusion can be drawn - install only certified xenon lamps and only if the design of the car allows it. With improperly installed optics, you can provoke an emergency situation on the road, blinding oncoming drivers and pedestrians, for which you will incur a well-deserved punishment.
