Penalty for crossing a solid line 2016

Road markings complement traffic signs. If a solid or double solid line is applied to the roadway, this means that it should never be crossed. Crossing a solid or double solid line is a violation of traffic rules and a fine is imposed for this.

In what cases do drivers most often cross the solid line:

  • when overtaking - by such an action the driver exposes himself to a fine of five thousand rubles, or he may be deprived of the VU for six months; if he overtakes again through a continuous one, he will have to transfer to public transport for a whole year;
  • if the driver goes around an obstacle, crossing a solid one - a fine in the amount of one to one and a half thousand rubles;
  • if the driver wants to make a left turn onto the adjoining road and at the same time drives into the oncoming one, crossing the solid one, again five thousand fines;
  • turn left through a solid line - one to one and a half thousand;
  • if a U-turn is carried out with the intersection of a solid line - 1000-1500 rubles;
  • if he leaves the territory adjacent to the road and turns left through a solid one - 500 rubles fine.

All these penalties and violations are detailed in Articles 12.15 and 12.16.

Questions arise, for example, how to leave the yard and turn left if there is a continuous marking, which is forbidden to cross. Usually in such cases, prescriptive signs are placed - moving to the right. That is, you need to turn right and drive to the place on the road where a U-turn is allowed or intermittent markings are applied.

In the same way, you need to make a turn and drive onto the adjacent road - only where it is allowed to do so.

You also need to remember about the priority of signs over the markings, that is, if the sign allows you to turn left, but the markings do not, then you can turn. At intersections, as a rule, continuous markings alternate with intermittent ones - this is the turn or U-turn zone.

A double solid line differs from a single one only in that it separates different types of roads:

  • single - where there is one lane for movement in one direction;
  • double - where there are at least two lanes for movement in one direction.

To avoid monetary fines and deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle, you need to carefully study the rules of the road. Paragraph 9.2 of the rules of the road clearly states that the intersection of solid marking lines is in no case allowed, and turns and U-turns can only be made where there are appropriate signs and markings, as well as at intersections.

It is worth noting that a solid line divides the road in sections with the most heavy traffic and within the city. Outside the city, you can see that there are no such strict rules, and the continuous one often turns into intermittent markings.
